Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position Overview
Bring your leadership and frontline experience to a role that helps keep our most vulnerable community members safe through the coldest months of the year. We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Extreme Weather Response Coordinator to oversee the daily operation and staffing of the Extreme Weather Response Program across multiple sites. If you’re passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness, leading a dedicated team, and making a tangible difference every day, we want to hear from you!
Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of operations and supervision of the Extreme Weather Response Program at multiple locations. This includes maintaining appropriate staffing levels, scheduling and ensuring coverage for all shifts, performing frontline duties alongside staff, and serving as a positive role model to staff and volunteers. The role also involves participating in the training of new staff, partnering with a variety of diverse stakeholders including other social service providers and government agencies to increase community awareness of homelessness, making recommendations on the development and evaluation of the program, and overseeing program budgets and invoicing.
Working under the guidance and supervision of the Manager, the Coordinator determines appropriate project staffing levels and participates in recruitment, including interviewing, candidate selection, and making hiring recommendations, while ensuring staff and volunteers are adequately oriented, trained, and supervised. The Coordinator may also prepare confidential documents on sensitive personnel matters and recommend appropriate action, supervise employees, and identify and respond to misconduct, including recommending and implementing disciplinary procedures and assisting with discharge. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate holds a diploma in social services or a related field and brings a minimum of one (1) year of experience working with homeless and vulnerable populations. Previous leadership experience is preferred. A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a current First Aid certificate are required.
This individual is able to assume a leadership position within the staff team and brings excellent communication, organizational, and mediation skills. Highly organized and solutions-focused, they can strategically plan and organize their workload and work effectively with co-workers, clients, and outside agencies. With demonstrated competency in the area of homelessness and a strong knowledge of promising practices in the field, they collaborate well in a team setting and bring established problem-solving capabilities.
This role requires the successful candidate to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector search prior to their start date.
