We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager Sanctions Advisory.

You will report to the Head of Sanctions and support the delivery of sanctions risk stewardship and advisory services across HSBC United Kingdom retail banking, wealth, and commercial banking. The purpose of the role is to provide oversight and advice on the United Kingdom sanctions and export controls framework, acting as a subject matter expert in sanctions risk management and compliance with sanctions and export controls regimes imposed by the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United Nations, and the United States, as well as HSBC Group Financial Crime Policy.

In this role you’ll:

• Support and lead the wider advisory team with SME knowledge on sanctions/export controls and advisory matters including client due diligence and transaction referrals
• Advise on risk management decisions concerning retention, exit and reporting for customers
• Handle a portfolio of advisory cases and drive to resolution
• Ensure teams are kept informed on sanctions referrals with significant impact
• Support commercial banking transactions, including providing advice on contractual wording and documentation
• Advise and determinate controls designed to mitigate sanctions/export controls risk with respect to products, customer relationships and transactions
• Work with financial crime investigations on live sanctions investigations and collaborate with sanctions legal to ensure a risk-based approach that aligns with applicable laws and regulations

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

• A deep understanding of United Kingdom, European Union, United Nations and United States financial sanctions and export controls or trade sanctions is essential, and sanctions experience is required, preferably gained within HSBC or a comparable financial institution
• A good understanding of business activities for a large global banking group with diverse operations from retail banking, wealth management, commercial banking, global banking, investments, transaction services, asset management, private banking and insurance
• Knowledge of the financial conduct authority rules (e.g. Systems and Controls) and all other relevant legislation and guidance, particularly in relation to the activities of the business lines supported
• Proven analytical skills, with the ability to support decisions with sound reasoning
