The opportunity
Reporting to the Group Advisor Climate Change, this role will support PLS’ response to climate change by delivering high-quality analysis, reporting, and insights across carbon accounting, climate risk, and regulatory compliance. The role works closely with senior advisors and subject matter experts to support decision-making and ensure accurate and timely climate-related information is available across the organisation.
This is a permanent full-time role based at our West Perth office, conveniently located near the City West train station.
Key responsibilities
Support shaping and operationalising PLS' climate strategy, net zero pathway and long-term decarbonisation roadmap.
Lead emissions analytics delivering NGER (National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting) and Safeguard Mechanism (SGM) compliance, providing forecasting, baseline management, and performance insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Support evaluation and delivery of decarbonisation projects - renewables, battery storage, power purchase agreements and fleet/processing electrification - to progress PLS' net zero pathway
Prepare regulatory submissions, compliance assessments, and carbon inventory documentation, ensuring robust governance, audit readiness and alignment with emerging climate disclosure requirements.
Lead Scope 3 data collection, analysis, and reporting while partnering with suppliers and customers to improve emissions transparency across the value chain.
Support life cycle assessment (LCAs) and translate LCA insights into targeted value chain decarbonisation programs, integrating Scope 3 into the PLS climate strategy and disclosures.
Drive the delivery of the Climate Transition Action Plan (CTAP) initiatives, identifying decarbonisation opportunities across the value chain and operations.
Collaborate with operational and functional teams to gather inputs and support execution of decarbonisation initiatives.
Contribute to climate risk and opportunity assessments, evaluating physical and transition risks and supporting AASB S2 compliance.
Translate climate scenario outputs into operational and financial insights, incorporating carbon price modelling, resilience assessments and investment decision support.
Support preparation of board papers, executive briefings, and decision-useful climate disclosures that meet regulatory and investor expectations.
Enhance carbon accounting and emissions data systems, improving data integrity, internal controls and performance tracking to strengthen governance, assurance readiness and decision-making.
Support engagement with investors, ratings agencies, industry bodies and external stakeholders on climate-related matters and disclosures.
About you
Tertiary qualified in relevant discipline such as Environmental Science, Climate Science, Engineering, Economics, or Sustainability
Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant professional experience, preferably within the mining industry and/or consulting or auditing sector
Knowledge of the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standards and Guidelines and/or ISO 14064-1 for organisational GHG inventories, with the ability to apply these frameworks in practice.
Formal training/demonstrated experience of the NGER scheme (measurement, compliance, reporting obligations) the Safeguard Mechanism Rule and participation in GHG verification and audit processes under relevant legislation.
Familiarity with climate-related financial disclosure frameworks, including ISSB S2 / AASB S2 and their application within corporate governance structures, including experience supporting board or executive-level reporting.
Experience undertaking climate risk assessments, interpreting climate scenarios and LCA’s
Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret complex climate-related datasets
Proven ability to communicate technical climate information clearly and concisely to non-specialist stakeholders through written reports, presentations and briefings.
