Full job description
About the Positions
We’re seeking Computer-aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Specialists of various skill levels to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, transit (bus and rail), aviation (international airports), and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. We hire across roadway and bridge plan sets, rail and bus transit drawings, airfield and terminal packages, and water and wastewater conveyance drawings, so we are looking for real depth in heavy civil plan production rather than every discipline at once. You’ll verify submissions against project CADD standards, keep controlled drawing sets current and defensible, and build the exhibits and figures staff need to make and document decisions.
This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need.
Responsibilitiesmay include, but are not limited to, the following:
Note: We are seeking candidates of various skill levels, and the following responsibilities represent the core of these roles. Scope and complexity increase with experience level.
Review consultant and contractor drawing sets against the program’s CADD standards, including seed and template files, layer and level conventions, file naming, and sheet organization, and log nonconformance for correction.
Check submitted plan sets for completeness, cross-referencing, scale, and datum consistency before technical reviewers spend time on them.
Maintain the controlled drawing set, including revision control, submittal and transmittal logging, and release of the current issued-for-construction sheets to the program team.
Develop drawings, exhibits, and figures in CADD that support the program team, such as right of way exhibits, staging and detour graphics, utility conflict figures, and exhibits supporting change and claim documentation.
Compile and mark up plan sheets carrying design review comments, and track each comment to the drawing change that closes it.
Verify that contractor and designer as-built and record drawings reflect approved changes, field directives, and accepted requests for information before they enter the permanent record set.
Support quantity verification by taking off dimensions, areas, and lengths from approved plans and comparing them against contractor submitted quantities.
Coordinate drawing files across adjacent contracts and disciplines so plan sets from separate design teams stay consistent where they meet.
Confirm that submitted drawings reference the program’s survey control, coordinate system, and datum before they are accepted into the controlled set.
Manage CADD files in the program’s common data environment or document management system, including check-in and check-out, access control, and file structure.
Reconcile files between Autodesk and Bentley formats so deliverables from different design teams can be reviewed and combined in the controlled set.
Attributes
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
Collaborative mindset that fosters teamwork, trust, and positive relationships.
Natural curiosity, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in drafting and design technology, computer-aided design, civil engineering technology, construction management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of CADD experience for large (>$500M), complex, heavy-civil infrastructure projects.
Experience developing and checking heavy civil plan sets, including plan and profile sheets, cross sections, and details, against a defined set of CADD standards.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, topographic surveys, and technical specifications.
Working knowledge of drawing revision control, file naming, and submittal or transmittal tracking across more than one contract or design team.
Proficiency with industry standard CADD, modeling, common data environment, and drawing review software (e.g., Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads, ProjectWise, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in drafting and design technology, computer-aided design, civil engineering technology, or construction management.
Active professional certifications such as Autodesk Certified Professional credentials, Bentley certifications, and/or CDT (CSI).
Experience supporting owner’s representative, program management, or construction management assignments on transportation, transit, aviation, or water infrastructure programs.
Experience serving as the lead CADD resource on a package exceeding $100M in construction value.
Experience developing right of way, staging, or utility conflict exhibits used in owner decisions, change evaluation, or claim documentation.
Working knowledge of state DOT or comparable agency plan production and drafting requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
