Employer Engagement Graduate Assistant, Worlds of Work, is responsible for supporting the operational aspects of employer engagement activities at GCU, focusing on coordinating tasks, functions, and processes of designated projects to ensure the successful execution of career events and initiatives, including those which specifically connect middle and high school students to industry via the Worlds of Work comprehensive career readiness program. Secure venues, manage room reservations, and arrange necessary equipment and supplies. Develop and maintain event timelines, run-of-show documents, and checklists.
Coordinate virtual and hybrid events using platforms like Zoom, Symplicity, and/or Microsoft Teams.
Collaborate with employers, faculty, student organizations, internal staff, and community stakeholders to support Worlds of Work goals.
Communicate regularly with stakeholders to confirm participation, provide event details, and manage expectations.
Act as the primary contact for employer representatives pre- and post-event.
Partner with community members, GCU/GCE departments, middle and/or high schools, employers, and Career Services to develop pre, during, and post-event assessments and activities to showcase increased understanding based on industry exposure.
Create and distribute promotional materials to boost student attendance, such as flyers, email campaigns, and social media content.
Coordinate event postings on Symplicity platform, university websites, and internal calendars.
Registration & Technology Support
Manage employer and student registration for events through Symplicity.
Provide day-of-event support, including tech setup, check-in stations, name tags, signage, and troubleshooting.
Utilize university processes to order catering, manage vendor relationships, and handle room setup and breakdown.
Track inventory of event supplies and promo items, such as signage, tablecloths, and banners.
Collect and analyze event feedback from attendees and employers.
Maintain event attendance data, employer engagement records, and post-event metrics.
Provide summary reports to leadership for assessment and continuous improvement.
Ensure all events follow university policies and safety protocols.
Complete any necessary risk assessments or event authorization paperwork.
Assist with event budgeting, including tracking expenses and submitting reimbursements or purchase orders.
Provide a high level of service to employers, students, and university partners.
Troubleshoot issues quickly and professionally during events.
Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
What you need:
Be admitted to a graduate degree seeking program at GCU. (Certificate only programs do not satisfy this requirement.)
Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If a student is newly admitted to the University, the admission GPA is considered for this requirement.) A student must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during their employment.
Be enrolled in as a “regular” (not provisional) degree-seeking student for at least 6 graduate level units leading to the degree. (Undergraduate or audited courses do not satisfy this requirement.) Hiring departments may require a higher enrollment.
Assistantships may be revoked at any time duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily.
Because of the role as student and employee, graduate assistants assume responsibility for upholding the University’s Student Code of Conduct.
Graduate Assistants are eligible for waiver of tuition for the period employed. Waiver of tuition may be taxable income.
Graduate Assistants must follow the HR employment workflow processes and pre-employment background checks.
Graduate Assistants have restricted work hours (maximum of 29 hours per week).
After all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met, a student is no longer eligible to receive a graduate assistantship.
“Incomplete” grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the “I” was recorded in order to continue the assistantship.
Graduate Assistants are part-time employees and not eligible for GCU’s employment benefits, except those stipulated by law.
