The Associate Director of Belonging and Student Engagement serves as a key strategic leader within the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion, providing vision, leadership, and operational oversight for campus-wide student engagement, belonging initiatives, and co-curricular programming. This roles advances an inclusive, vibrant campus community that fosters connection, leadership development, and student success through high impact practices, intentional programming, and collaborative partnerships.

The Associate Director supervises professional and student staff, and works closely with campus partners to ensure cohesive, innovative, and student-centered engagement experiences.

Position Summary
 

The Associate Director of Belonging and Student Engagement serves as a key strategic leader within the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion, providing vision, leadership, and operational oversight for campus-wide student engagement, belonging initiatives, and co-curricular programming. This role advances an inclusive, vibrant campus community that fosters connection, leadership development, and student success through high impact practices, intentional programming, and collaborative partnerships.

As a member within the department’s leadership team, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing major student engagement initiatives, student organization development, fraternity and sorority life, late-night and evening programming, marketing and outreach efforts, and area assessment/reporting. The Associate Director supervises professional and student staff, and works closely with campus partners to ensure cohesive, innovative, and student-centered engagement experiences.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

40% Strategic Leadership and Department Supervision

• Serve as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director of Student Life and Belonging, overseeing key departmental operations, supporting strategic initiatives, goal setting, policy development and continuous improvement surrounding student engagement and belonging. Position will serve as the primary leader of operations and management surrounding student activities, club and organizations, sorority and fraternity life, and leadership programs with a focus on fostering inclusive student engagement and a strong sense of belonging across campus.
• Responsible for the hiring, development, evaluation and direct supervision of two full time positions including the Assistant Director of Clubs and Student Leadership, and the Coordinator of Belonging and Student Engagement
• Supervise a student employee team inclusive of student organization support staff, sorority and fraternity student lead, and members of the marketing and design team.
• Provide leadership and oversight related to compliance, process development, budget/expense tracking, supervision of procurement processes for student organizations, club risk management, and organizational advancement for student clubs and organizations.
• Partner with the Assistant Director in providing curricular development, outreach, scholarship management, recruitment, and programming for the Urban Leadership Program (ULP) and general campus leadership programming.
• Serve as a key partner and provide guidance and oversight for all belonging and engagement-focused programming and Student Activities Programming Board support with the Coordinator of Belonging and Student Engagement.
• Coordinate with respective CMEI staff effective processes regarding student club budgets, spending, fund request approval processes, reporting, and tracking systems.
• Regularly attend, engage, and lead CMEI staff meetings, events, programs, trainings,  and projects
• Set the strategic vision and curriculum of leadership programming and development within the department, adopt a leadership framework to be centered in the departments leadership work, and build out Urban Leadership Program (ULP outcomes, and general leadership philosophies.  

35% Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) Advisement/Campus Advisor

• Serve as the primary point of contact and on-campus advisor for all sorority and fraternity organizations and matters to include providing direction, coaching and development for SFL Community members and their respective councils.
• Work with and educate council and chapter leaders, advisory board, local advisers, national/international organizations, and applicable MSU Denver departments in providing a robust infrastructure design to support the MSU Denver SFL community.
• Serve as a liaison to national/international affiliated fraternity and sorority headquarters and professional staff including meeting and communicating with traveling leadership and chapter consultants.
• Design and implement comprehensive FSL co-curricular programming including new member recruitment, ongoing member education, and promoting responsible membership and effective chapter management.
• Coordinate the annual SFL recognition and accreditation program which includes chapter self-assessment, data collection, and regular chapter check-ins.
• Manage, and implement a budget funded through student fee appropriations to SFL while ensuring fiscal responsibility, effective planning, and effective use of resources in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and university policies in specific procedures.
• Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision for the Fraternity and Sorority Life community that enhances its presence on campus and fosters meaningful partnerships off campus as well.
• Design and deliver supplemental programming that expands the reach and visibility of SFL, including signature events such as Greek Week, Yard Shows, Meet the Greeks, Greek Day, community service initiatives, and inclusive social programming.
• Provide comprehensive advising, oversight, and opportunities of recruitment practices for all FSL organizations, ensuring alignment with institutional values and national standards.
• Collaborate with academic support services to develop and implement academic success strategies tailored to the needs of fraternity and sorority members.

15% Campus-wide Activities and Campus Traditions

• Direct and co-lead with the coordinator of belonging and student engagement the planning, implementation, and assessment of major traditional and campus-wide activities including, but not limited to, Rowdy Rally Convocation, Fall and Spring Ready, Set, ROWDY! Welcome Month programming, and Roadrunners after Dark Concert.
• Lead the development of comprehensive evening and late-night programming opportunities that promote student belonging, connection, and engagement.
• Collaborate closely with Housing and Residence Life, the Student Activities Programming board, and campus partners to align resources, messaging and calendars for evening and late night programming.
• Provide innovation, strategic guidance, and leadership to the Student Activities Programming Board.

5% Department Marketing and Outreach

• Oversee all department marketing, communications and outreach efforts through the Marketing and Design team, ensuring consistent branding, messaging, and alignment with institutional practices through digital, print, and social media platforms
• Supervise the marketing and design team, setting clear expectations, timelines, and quality standards through partnership with university communications and marketing, and conduct the recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluation of student employees serving on this team.
• Coordinate student engagement presence and staffing for orientation programs, open houses and key recruitment and yield events.

5% Assessment and Reporting

• Assess, track and analyze FSL student leadership development, retention, and persistence on a semester and annual basis, using insights to inform strategic planning and student support initiatives.
• Responsible for compiling data and creating reports for all student engagement and belonging programs used for the semesterly and annual CMEI report, student retention analysis, and university-wide strategic planning outcomes. Use data to inform continuous improvements to programming and advocate for additional resources when necessary.
• Track all expenses and related funding sources to ensure fiscal responsibility and management of student fee dollars, while providing middle and end-of-semester reports

5% Other Duties as Assigned

• Serve as a lead for campus Hazing Prevention and Intervention initiatives including training programs, cross campus partnership, and wide-spread cohort education.
• Continually evaluate, draft, and implement best practices in fraternity and sorority risk management.
• In coordination with the Office of the Dean of Students, provide crisis response and support for FSL organizations, including coordination with campus safety, counseling, and conduct offices as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of three (3)- Five (5) years of direct experience advising fraternity and sorority organizations in higher education.
• Experience supervising professional staff.
• Experience planning and implementing campus programs, events, traditions, or leadership initiatives.
• Experience managing budgets, including expense tracking, financial reporting, and fiscal oversight.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Higher Education, Education, Leadership Studies, or a related field.
• Experience working at an urban, commuter-serving, Minority-Serving Institution (MSI), Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), or similarly designated institution.
• Experience advising, supporting, or working with fraternity and sorority communities and operations, including National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC/Divine Nine), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), Panhellenic, and Interfraternity Council (IFC) organizations within a higher education setting.
• Experience developing and implementing strategic plans, initiatives, or assessment efforts related to student engagement, leadership development, or fraternity and sorority life.
• Experience providing organizational advising, leadership development, and co-curricular support to student organizations and governing councils.
• Experience coordinating hazing prevention programs, educational initiatives, training, or policy implementation efforts.
• Experience with campus risk management, crisis response, restorative practices, and/or student conduct processes.
• Experience designing, facilitating, or assessing leadership programs informed by leadership theory, student development theory, social change leadership models, or culturally responsive engagement frameworks.

Work Hours
 

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt

Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm

Evenings and weekend work: May be required, as needed.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Travel: Rare; as needed

Salary for Announcement
 

We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $67,000-$76,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
 

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
