Youth Music Coach (IDPL) - Adult Education
POSITON DESCRIPTION
The Youth Music Coach reports to the Family Literacy & After School Program Manager and is responsible for planning, preparing, and carrying out age appropriate cultural enrichment activities, including music instruction for children aged 6 –13. The Youth Music Coach is a classroom assistant who has knowledge and can play a string instrument, and who works with the regular instructors to present extra cultural enrichment activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares and carries out Learning Activities (learning games, and musical instruction) with children aged 6-13 using the Illinois State Board of Education K-6 learning skills standards but also curriculum resources provided for the program to lead children in musical instrument knowledge and practice, or other cultural enrichment curriculum as indicated by the supervisor.
Instructs children and measures learning gains with program generated observational checklists.
Follows registration and attendance protocols.
Carries out job related duties as directed by immediate supervisor.
Exhibits professional courtesy in dealing with program participants, colleagues, team members, and the public.
Shows enthusiasm to assist students and their parents.
Attends no less than 95% of scheduled classes.
Attends further professional development as indicated by supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Highschool Diploma or equivalent; College credits preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in music, as displayed through documented experience, reported personal achievement, performances or productions.
Ability to implement age appropriate curriculum music activities.
Experience working with children aged 6 – 13 years preferred.
Knowledge of music and string instruments such as guitars and ukuleles.
Ability to work in a team.
Exceptional organization and time management skills.
Excellent customer service attitude.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
Dependable and punctual.
Strong project management skills, attention to detail and effective management of multiple projects at one time.
Ability to adhere to deadlines, react to unpredictable events quickly and efficiently, be resourceful, manage conflict and challenges.
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Approximately 50% of time spent standing, some lifting (under 30 lbs.)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Majority of work performed in a general school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
