Role Purpose

The jobholder supports the Head of Business Management by extending the business management function across INM GPS. This includes developing and communicating strategies and tactical initiatives, obtaining stakeholder buy-in, tracking progress, monitoring delivery, and analysing key P&L drivers. The role identifies growth opportunities and mitigants required to grow the GPS business in partnership with the Country Head of GPS, Global Business Heads, and other GPS business teams.

The role also enables delivery of INM GPS profitability targets through effective business and market management, working closely with clients, internal/external stakeholders, Head INM GPS Business Management, Head India GPS, and GPS INM Functional Heads. This is achieved by driving business reviews, supporting resolution of business challenges, developing market intelligence, and building analytics (e.g., to identify opportunities and manage client attrition).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1) Business Impact (P&L, Strategy, Growth)

• Plan and drive INM GPS P&L growth through engagement with INM GPS Business Management Head, INM GPS Mancom members, and key stakeholders (business and functional teams).
• Develop strategies and initiatives required to grow GPS INM business in partnership with the INM GPS Management Committee.
• Ensure GPS business meets profitability targets and supports HSBC’s positioning as a leading Cash Management provider in-country.
• Analyse performance and P&L drivers; identify opportunities and mitigants to support growth.
• Work with Head Business Management, INM GPS, Country Head GPS and Business Unit Heads to develop and deliver:
  
  GPS strategic plan
  Annual operating plan
  Business cases for new initiatives, capacity and investments
  
  
• Lead country projects on behalf of the INM GPS Country Head’s office (e.g., people enablement, due diligence, medium-term outlooks) aligned to Bank strategic initiatives.

2) Customers / Stakeholders

• Build and maintain a strong understanding of how internal and external challenges impact demand for cash management services and GPS revenue.
• Drive enablement of the GPS India target operating model and related initiatives with country and business stakeholders.
• Engage with clients, regulators/government bodies, competitors and professional advisors to monitor market developments.
• Assess consequences, opportunities and threats; provide recommendations for local/regional/group adoption and drive alignment where required.
• Partner with INM GPS functional teams to understand priorities, propose initiatives and provide analytical/business support to help achieve their strategic goals.

3) Leadership & Teamwork

• Drive teamwork and communication across INM and enhance connectivity between regional and country stakeholders.
• Live the Group Values and promote collaborative ways of working across teams.
• Provide direction on the INM GPS target operating model and execution aligned to regional/global models.
• Understand key country business challenges and mobilise stakeholders to resolve them.
• Support integration of country participation models within the regional GPS operating framework.

4) Operational Effectiveness & Control

• Maintain strong internal controls and support adherence to risk management expectations for the GPS team.
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards and observe Group Compliance Policy; minimise operational risk.
• Work across GPS functional teams to define performance metrics and implement dashboards (e.g., Power BI) for tracking progress.
• Review and address gaps in policies/procedures (existing and new) in relation to FCC, RC and Legal; engage risk stewards to align expectations.
• Manage BIRO-related activities and keep abreast of governance changes; ensure timely dissemination to staff for adherence to sales/service/product benchmarks.
• Support compliance with applicable regulations and requirements (e.g., circulars, audits) and help resolve compliance deficiencies.

Major Challenges

• Partnering with senior management (INM GPS Country Head and Mancom, regional GPS teams, country business heads) to grow INM GPS revenue and profits.
• Executing recommendations from business/market reviews without direct control of country resourcing.
• Identifying and communicating key opportunities and threats to the country GPS franchise and influencing actions at senior leadership level.
• Articulating country GPS strategy during Medium Term Outlook, strategic planning and annual operating planning cycles; implementing mechanisms to track progress and drive corrective actions.
• Representing the INM GPS franchise effectively in client and senior management forums; demonstrating maturity and strong stakeholder management.

Role Context & Scope

• The role operates with considerable discretion in day-to-day activities, seeking guidance/approvals from the Head of Business Management, INM GPS when new strategies are proposed or changes to agreed strategies are required.
• The role supports ongoing build-out of the Business Management function across ASP GPS and contributes to best-practice sharing, people-related enablement, client addition/attrition analytics, and business updates to stakeholders.
• Requires strong business management, project management, client engagement, negotiation and risk management capabilities.
• Extensive engagement with senior management across Banking, INM Country Leadership, and functional teams (e.g., HOST, Finance, Strategy, Business Management).

Risk & Control Responsibilities

• Maintain awareness of operational risk relevant to the role and take actions that reflect operational risk considerations.
• Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal/external audit actions and addressing regulatory issues.
• Comply with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures, including Group Compliance Policy and internal controls.

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

Education

• Postgraduate (Master’s) preferred
• Pro-tip : Familiarity with AI-enabled tools is an advantage.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience (preferred); banking experience desirable
• Proven experience managing system development life cycles and multi-team deliveries
• Strong project management experience, including working across geographies
• Understanding of transaction banking business and products
• Business management / P&L management expertise
• Strong analytical capability; proficient in Microsoft tools (Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
