The Digital Platform Engineer play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining the cloud-based platform that powers our media streaming services. This platform underpins experiences for hundreds of thousands of customers across apps such as Sky Box, Sky Pod, Sky Go, Neon, and ThreeNow. The role focuses on delivering robust, scalable Java applications and cloud solutions that ensure high performance, reliability, and security, enabling seamless streaming and innovative features for our users.
Key responsibilities will include:
Partner with product teams to translate the roadmap into robust technical solutions. Deliver features at velocity while laying down a flexible, secure, and scalable platform that enables rapid, safe development of future capabilities.
Design and Develop Services: Build and operate high-volume, event-driven services primarily using Java, powering APIs that integrate with internal systems and third-party platforms.
Cloud Infrastructure Engineering: Design, implement, and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure components to ensure scalability, resilience, and security.
Platform Performance and Reliability: Collaborate with development teams to optimize platform performance, implement monitoring solutions, and troubleshoot issues to maintain high availability.
Technical Architecture: Contribute to the architecture of the Sky Digital Platform, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and security. Work closely with developers to meet workload and performance requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders including product managers, UX/UI designers, architects, analysts, data specialists, and marketing teams to deliver seamless digital experiences across Sky’s products.
In this role, you’ll design, build, and enhance the platforms that power Sky’s digital experiences — ensuring they’re fast, reliable, scalable, and ready for what’s next. You’ll work across modern cloud technologies, automation, CI/CD, observability, and platform engineering practices, collaborating with engineers and product teams to deliver seamless customer experiences. What you’ll be able to bring to this role:
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify root causes and resolve complex issues.
A strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure.
Strong communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts and collaborate effectively across teams
Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure
Proven experience with Java (including Spring Framework), NoSQL databases, AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and Git. Ability to use these tools to build modular, scalable applications.
Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure.
API Development: Skilled in building and publishing modern HTTP-based JSON APIs.
Networking Knowledge: Solid grasp of networking principles and protocols for designing and configuring platform networking infrastructure.
Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical knowledge.
