Full job description
Are you someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining clean and safe environments, and likes operating equipment and tackling a variety of hands-on tasks? If so, we'd love to meet you.
As a Laborer, you'll play an important role in supporting daily landfill operations and helping create a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for customers, employees, and the community. Every day brings different opportunities—from operating equipment and maintaining grounds to assisting visitors and supporting facility improvement projects.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
Help maintain landfill grounds by mowing, trimming, landscaping, and collecting litter.
Support facility appearance through painting, cleaning, beautification projects, and minor repairs.
Build, repair, and maintain fences and erosion-control features such as silt fencing and straw bales.
Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment, including:
Backhoes
Street sweepers
Fuel trucks
Roll-off trucks
Water trucks
Other support equipment
Direct customers and haulers to appropriate disposal areas and ensure safe traffic flow throughout the facility.
Fuel vehicles and equipment and complete required inspection and vehicle reports.
Maintain facility sidewalks, roadways, restrooms, gates, wheel wash areas, and other operational spaces.
Assist with litter collection along assigned highways and roadways.
Support odor control efforts and help apply Alternate Daily Cover (ADC) when needed.
Partner with mechanics and maintenance staff to perform basic equipment maintenance, change tires, and retrieve parts.
Clean equipment tracks and wheels and help maintain a safe, organized worksite.
Provide professional, courteous service to both internal and external customers.
Respond to other operational needs and support team projects as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Valid Ohio driver's license.
Commitment to safety, reliability, and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing maintenance, groundskeeping, or facility upkeep.
Experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment.
Skills for Success
We're looking for someone who:
Enjoys hands-on outdoor work.
Demonstrates strong dependability and attendance.
Follows safety procedures and operational guidelines.
Can read and understand safety documents, operating manuals, and work instructions.
Communicates professionally and respectfully with customers and coworkers.
Works effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Uses sound judgment and common sense to solve problems and complete tasks.
Can safely operate equipment and vehicles while maintaining attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
This position is active and requires:
Frequent walking, climbing, balancing, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and lifting.
Regular lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of 100 pounds or more.
Use of ladders, power tools, and various maintenance equipment.
Working in and around traffic, construction-style environments, and confined work areas.
Ability to meet vision requirements, including near, distance, color, and focused vision.
Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
Work Environment
This role is primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to:
Hot and cold weather conditions
Dust, odors, noise, and fumes
Moving equipment and mechanical hazards
Elevated work areas and active operational environments
Team members must be available for emergency call-ins, shift assignments, and overtime when operational needs require.
Why Join Us?
This position offers the opportunity to make a visible impact every day by helping maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible operation. You'll work alongside a dedicated team, develop valuable equipment and maintenance skills, and contribute to services that benefit the entire community.
