POSITION SUMMARY
Provide instruction in the safe operation of power and hand tools, basic and advanced woodworking techniques, advanced joinery techniques and finishing processes. The Woodshop Technician actively engages in the creative culture of the school and models responsible use of the facilities. The Woodshop Technician will take direction from and work closely with the 3D Studio Manager and the Department Chair to support the curriculum. Work hours will be scheduled around curricular needs and class demands and may involve weekend hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Work with specific classes, assisting the faculty in delivering their curriculum
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment
Restock needed supplies and tools based on student and faculty needs
Maintain equipment and machinery
Educate students about safety procedures in the shop (eye/ear protection, guards, etc.)
Supervise student’s shop use during open lab times
Provide class demonstrations in tool usage
Administer tool use/check out system
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Recent continuing education or apprenticeship
Extensive knowledge and experience with a wide variety of hand and power tools
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Ability to give and receive direction & communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff
Strong aptitude for equipment maintenance and repair
Excellent supervisory and organizational skills
Understanding of institutional health and safety issues
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Fine Art Degree
Valid Oregon Driver’s License
Typical Work Schedule: Work-hours will be scheduled around curricular needs and class demands and may involve weekend hours. This is a 10-month position with an average weekly workload of 20 hours per week.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Ability to lift 75 lbs and move 500 lbs
Ability to work standing for long periods
Salary: $18.59 per hour
