Responsibilities
The Design Consultant leads homeowners through the entire remodeling process from initial discovery to the signing of a construction agreement. They are responsible for aligning client visions with realistic budgets while coordinating with designers and project managers to ensure successful project execution.
Requirements
Candidates must have experience in residential design or remodeling and possess strong consultative sales skills. The role requires the ability to build trust, manage complex decisions, and guide clients through high-end home improvement projects.
Full job description
Design Consultant
Help homeowners create homes that shape the way they live.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, genuinely enjoys helping people make important decisions, and is motivated by achieving exceptional results.
You build trust quickly. You ask thoughtful questions before offering solutions. You enjoy solving complex problems and helping clients see possibilities they hadn't considered. You're comfortable leading conversations, challenging assumptions with empathy, and guiding people toward confident decisions.
You're also competitive.
Not because you rely on high-pressure sales tactics, but because you take pride in earning trust, delivering outstanding client experiences, and achieving ambitious goals. You understand that exceptional client outcomes and exceptional business results go hand in hand.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
About Lamont Bros.
Lamont Bros. is one of Portland's premier design-build remodeling companies. We help homeowners thoughtfully transform the places they'll spend the next chapter of their lives.
We believe the design of our homes shapes the way we live. That's why we don't simply execute remodeling projects—we guide clients through one of the biggest investments they'll ever make with thoughtful design, disciplined execution, and exceptional communication.
Our clients aren't looking for the lowest price.
They're looking for a trusted guide.
About the Role
As a Design Consultant, you'll lead homeowners from their first conversation through a signed Construction Agreement.
Success in this role comes from earning trust, leading thoughtful conversations, and helping clients confidently invest in exceptional design.
You'll discover what matters most to each client, help them envision possibilities they may not have considered, align their goals with a realistic investment, and guide them through our design-build process with confidence.
This is a consultative, performance-based career where your ability to create value for clients directly influences your success.
What You'll Do
Our Design Consultants lead clients through five key responsibilities:
Discover
Understand the client's goals, lifestyle, motivations, and vision while building the trust that leads to a signed Design Retainer.
Envision
Help clients imagine a home that better supports the way they want to live, approve a compelling Design Vision, and confidently continue investing in the design process.
Align
Keep the client's vision, scope, investment, and expectations aligned throughout design, resulting in accurate Construction Agreements with minimal surprises.
Lead
Coordinate clients, the designer, the project manager, and consultants to move projects efficiently from discovery to construction.
Influence
Create exceptional client experiences that generate referrals, strengthen Lamont Bros.' reputation, and contribute to a portfolio of projects that inspires future clients.
Compensation
We believe people who create exceptional value should be rewarded accordingly.
This is a performance-based role with significant earning potential. More than half of total compensation is tied to performance through bonuses for signed Construction Agreements.
The right person is excited by that opportunity.
They want meaningful influence over both their results and their income. They enjoy setting ambitious goals, taking ownership of outcomes, and being rewarded for exceptional performance.
You'll Thrive Here If You...
Enjoy building long-term relationships based on trust.
Are energized by meaningful conversations and complex decisions.
Appreciate thoughtful design, architecture, and craftsmanship.
Have the confidence to guide clients—not simply agree with them.
Take ownership of outcomes and enjoy being rewarded for performance.
Communicate exceptionally well, both verbally and in writing.
Stay organized while managing multiple clients and projects.
Want to build a career where trust, expertise, design, and results are equally important.
Preferred Experience
We're more interested in how you think than exactly where you've worked, but successful candidates often come from backgrounds such as:
Design-build remodeling
Residential design or architecture
Luxury or custom homebuilding
High-end kitchen and bath design
Luxury real estate
Consultative sales
Professional services where trust, expertise, and long-term relationships drive success
Some experience in residential design or remodel is required.
Why Lamont Bros.
This isn't simply an opportunity to sell remodeling projects.
It's an opportunity to help homeowners create spaces they'll love for years to come while building a career with a company that believes thoughtful design and exceptional execution belong together.
If you believe your greatest strength is helping people make confident, meaningful decisions—and you want to be rewarded for the value you create—we'd love to meet you.
