The specialist provides initial psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and therapy for patients in the emergency department. They also coordinate patient transitions and admissions by collaborating with physicians, nursing teams, and community agencies.
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field and possess one to three years of relevant experience. A BLS certification is required, along with strong crisis intervention and communication skills.
The ED Psych Assessment Specialist provides services to patients with mental health complaints from adolescents through advanced adulthood in an emergency department setting. Services include initial assessment, crisis, individual and group therapy. Provides psychosocial assessments, interviews, and treatments and works closely with other healthcare team members, community resources, and regulatory agencies to facilitate the transition of patients from the ED to their next continuum of care. Serves as a patient advocate.
Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:
Education: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field is required.
Experience: One to three years of related experience is required
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: BLS required
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required. Must be able to complete orientation and competency validation for the position successfully. Must have crisis intervention skills, cultural competence, integrity, and courteous disposition. De-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward. Excellent organizational and time management skills
