Regional Forensic Mental Health Service (RFMHS)
At Forensicare, you'll be part of a specialist service dedicated to improving outcomes for people experiencing mental illness, offending-related risks and complex behavioural concerns. We work across mental health, justice and community settings, supporting recovery while contributing to a safer community.
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Psychologist to join our Regional Forensic Mental Health Service on a full-time fixed-term basis through to August 2027. Based at Clifton Hill and supporting the Western Metropolitan region, you will provide expert forensic psychological assessment, intervention, consultation and clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.
About the Role
As a Senior Psychologist, you will play a key role in delivering specialist forensic mental health services to consumers involved with or at risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. You will contribute your advanced clinical expertise to support recovery-focused care, risk management and service development.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct specialist forensic psychological, psychometric and risk assessments.
Prepare high-quality reports for courts, justice agencies and mental health services.
Deliver evidence-based individual and group psychological interventions.
Provide expert consultation and secondary advice to clinicians and external stakeholders.
Contribute to multidisciplinary risk assessment, formulation and treatment planning.
Support transitions between community, hospital and correctional settings.
Supervise psychology students, registrars and psychologists.
Participate in research, evaluation and service improvement initiatives.
Contribute to local workforce capability development through education and training.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Hold general registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) or, for overseas-trained psychologists, be eligible for a PsyBA transitional program to attain general registration.
Completed a minimum of a Level 3 and 4 APAC-accredited Psychology training sequence (i.e., Masters or Doctorate) in one or more of the following Areas of Practice Endorsement (AoPE): Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, and/or Forensic Psychology
Must have or be eligible for an Area of Practice Endorsement (AoPE) in clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and/or forensic psychology.
Psychologists with Forensic AoPE alone will need to demonstrate the necessary education, training, and experience in clinical psychology needed to work in forensic mental health settings
Registration as a Board-approved supervisor, or eligibility to obtain supervision endorsement.
A minimum of five years' experience as a fully registered psychologist.
Demonstrated expertise in forensic mental health assessment, risk assessment and intervention.
Strong knowledge of relevant mental health, forensic and criminal justice systems.
Experience working in forensic mental health, mental health and/or correctional settings.
Exceptional written communication skills, including report writing and court-related documentation.
The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
