Position Summary
The CDI Manager has leadership responsibility of the daily operations of the department including, clinical, staffing, quality, and financial management. Ensures compliance with performance improvement processes and all regulatory bodies with CDI department and hospital. Implements strategies, processes, and standards to ensure operations support the key organizational and departmental initiatives. Promotes collegial relationships between the department and other departments or disciplines across the organization. Responsible for employee coaching, training, hiring, counseling/discipline, performance assessment and payroll processes.
Required Qualifications
Three (3) year’s experience as CDI Specialist with a minimum of 1 year in a leadership role
CCS and CDI (CDIP or CCDS) certification
Medical Graduate, Physician Assistant or Registered Nurse (Current CA License)
Ability to multitask and maintain a work pace appropriate to workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to effectively communicate with physicians in a clear and concise manner
Proficiency in coding and analytics and preparation of department reports
Computer literacy and proficiency
Ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
Strong time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize task
Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)

Essential Job Functions/Major Areas of Responsibility

Manages the daily operations of the CDI department. Demonstrates advanced level of expertise, strong leadership and collaborative skills in dealing with staff and members of the team. Consistently ensures practice is within scope of licensure and compliant with hospital wide standards of CDI. Ensures institutional compliance with professional, accrediting and regulatory standards of care. Ensures HIPAA compliance.
Ensures appropriate staffing levels. Oversees contract labor/services, including appropriate credentialing, orientation and evaluation. Responsible for scheduling/staffing, coaching, training, hiring, firing, counseling, performance evaluations and competencies, and payroll process. Effectively manages staff in compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, and all established policies, procedures and legal guidelines.
Collaborates with staff and members of the healthcare team, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines and support staff. Delegates CDI activities to appropriate members of the team, provides effective leadership and ensures that work is of high quality. Acts as a source of information and articulately responds to questions, providing resources, guidance, and education about CDI.
Manages the concurrent medical record review for CDI throughout the hospital. Maintains up to date working DRG and has clear strategies to effectuate improved quality of clinical documentation. Maintains DRG assignment mismatch report of differences in DRG assignment and provides feedback to the Director for performance evaluation of the CDI process. Takes responsibility on CDI DNFB, implementing methodologies to maintain the DNFB and escalates issues to the director of CDI promptly.
Ensures department performance, quality, and process improvement. Appropriately educates and mentors. Demonstrates problem-solving, critical thinking, and prioritization of work to resolve issues as they arise in an appropriate and timely manner. Participates in scheduled case management meetings and actively exchanges information.
