Job Description
Start here. Grow here.
“Are you ready to join a team of modellers and shape the future of the Water Industry?”
Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydraulic Modeller in our rapidly growing Edinburgh and Glasgow offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model.
At AECOM, we’re at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients, including local government, contractors, charities and water companies. In this role, you will act as a senior technical leader and advisor, driving excellence in project delivery while supporting and developing team capability.
This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to lead a talented, diverse team committed to innovation and efficiency. The team in Scotland has a broad range of skills, and we pride ourselves on delivering large-scale, multidisciplinary projects supported by the wider AECOM network.
We take a collaborative approach across our Water, Energy, Environmental and Transportation sectors, and we are looking for a proactive leader to help grow and strengthen our UK Water teams.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for hydraulic modelling, hydrology and flooding projects.
Lead the development of technical approaches and methodologies, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective project delivery.
Serve as a senior technical advisor to the team, supporting complex problem-solving and decision-making.
Deliver and oversee technically challenging, high-profile projects for key clients.
Provide specialist technical input into studies and designs within your area of expertise.
Lead and contribute to interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control processes, including review of calculations, models, and technical outputs.
Prepare and review technical specifications, reports, and design documentation.
Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical effort for projects.
Contribute to the development of project budgets and schedules, ensuring delivery aligns with client and programme requirements.
Use your expertise across all stages of project delivery, including PS&E (Plans, Specifications & Estimates) packages.
Provide strategic technical guidance to clients, enabling informed decision-making.
Mentor and support junior and mid-level staff, helping them progress towards chartership and technical excellence.
Support team growth, capability development, and contribute to a positive team culture.
If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you. Join our team, where we don't just construct infrastructure but also uplift communities and enhance lives. Why not give our AECOM Water page on LinkedIn a follow to stay updated on the impactful projects we're working on and see firsthand the difference we're making in the industry!
Come grow with us.
Become part of our dynamic Water business, which boasts around 600 experts across the UK & Ireland. Collaborate with top-tier engineers and consultants to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion.
At AECOM, you’ll thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued - and let's not forget about the perks!
