Job Description
Video Journalist, LBC and LBC News
At Global, we think big, work hard, and never stand still. We’re the proud home of the best media and entertainment, driven by our talented and passionate people. Our mission? To make everyone’s day brighter — our Globallers, our audiences, our partners, and our communities. Whether we’re in the studio, building world-class technology, or securing record Outdoor advertising partnerships, we make sure we’re doing it as a team.
Your Role: Video Journalist, LBC
We’re looking for an experienced video journalist with a track-record in delivering multiplatform news content to join LBC and Global’s newsroom on a full-time basis.
Based out of our Midlands newsroom, you’ll cover some of the biggest stories across the region for radio, whilst also using your expertise in video to generate short and longform content for our digital sites and channels. You’ll be a voice and face that our audience come to trust, having a regular presence across the LBC brand, and our regional bulletins.
You’ll be at home in the Midlands with a strong contacts book and great local knowledge. You’ll be comfortable onscreen, and you’ll have a strong broadcast voice, outstanding writing skills and a good understanding of Ofcom regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Multiplatform newsgathering and reporting (35%): Deliver breaking news, original stories and day‑to‑day coverage for LBC and LBC News across radio, digital and social. Produce radio packages, live hits and in‑vision reports, including self‑shot video pieces.
Digital and social video production (35%): Create engaging short and longform video for our sites and social channels, with a particular focus on helping LBC stand out on YouTube. Develop content that drives engagement and reflects the biggest stories affecting the Midlands.
Story development and agenda setting (15%): Work with the Senior News Editor and London Newsgathering team to help set the agenda for the Midlands, originating and developing exclusive stories and innovative visual treatments.
Compliance, judgement and relationships (15%): Apply sound legal judgement and Ofcom regulations to all content. Build and maintain a strong network of contacts across the region, and be flexible to cover major stories whenever and wherever they happen.
What You’ll Love About This Role
Think Big: You’ll be joining LBC at an exciting time, as we grow our video offering whilst continuing to deliver award winning‑ radio. This expansion gives you space to think creatively, experiment with new formats, and help shape the future of LBC’s multi‑platform journalism.
Own It: As well as dealing with day-to-day news, you’ll‑ be given the time to work up and deliver your own exclusives across LBC & LBC News — taking ownership of stories from idea to execution.
Keep it Simple: You’ll help to develop repeatable formats that help LBC create a strong presence on multiple social platforms.
Better Together: You’ll work with a dedicated newsgathering team and some of the most talented broadcasters in the business, collaborating closely to deliver exceptional journalism across the LBC network.
What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you’ll have:
Established yourself as a trusted face and voice for LBC in the Midlands, delivering breaking news and stories into our radio stations and digital platforms.
Started to build key relationships with our Newsgathering team and those working in our Midlands newsroom.
You’ll have contributed to our video offerings from the region, and presented some of our longform videos for Youtube.
Developed a full understanding of LBC and other brands across Global.
What You’ll Need
The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:
You will be a great-team player, working under the guidance of your Senior colleagues to provide on-target, agenda-setting news content.
You will be passionate about the Midlands, and eager to create your own outstanding content on breaking stories, and original ideas.
You will have a confident on-air presence with the ability to report live into LBC and LBC News.
You’ll know how to get the best video content out of smartphone, and how to edit it for multiple formats and platforms.
You will be happy to work flexible hours and always strive to complete a task to a high standard.
A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
