JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout patient care areas, staff areas, and common spaces of the facility. This role performs routine cleaning, disinfecting, and laundry services in accordance with infection control standards and facility policy, and manages the inventory of cleaning supplies to ensure adequate stock is maintained at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleans and disinfects patient care areas, including bedrooms, bathrooms, common areas, and treatment/therapy spaces, in accordance with infection control protocols and universal precautions.
Cleans and maintains staff areas, including offices, break rooms, restrooms, and administrative spaces, on a regular schedule.
Sweeps, mops, vacuums, dusts, and sanitizes floors, surfaces, fixtures, and furnishings throughout the facility.
Collects, washes, dries, folds, and distributes client and staff linens, towels, and laundry in accordance with facility sanitation standards.
Ensures soiled linens and laundry are handled, stored, and transported in a manner that prevents cross-contamination and protects client and staff health and safety.
Empties trash and recycling receptacles and disposes of waste, including medical/biohazard waste where applicable, in accordance with facility policy and applicable regulations.
Monitors, orders, and manages inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and laundry products; maintains accurate supply records and notifies the supervisor of reorder needs.
Ensures cleaning supplies and chemicals are stored, labeled, and secured in accordance with safety data sheets (SDS) and OSHA guidelines, and reports maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
Follows all infection control, universal precaution, and confidentiality requirements (including 42 CFR Part 2) when working in or around patient care areas, and performs other housekeeping and facility support duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Prior housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial experience preferred, ideally in a healthcare or residential treatment setting.
Knowledge of proper use and safe handling of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and infection control procedures.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
Basic organizational skills to manage and track cleaning and laundry supply inventory.
Legally authorized to work in the U.S.A.
COMPETENCIES:
Attention to detail; consistently identifies cleaning and sanitation needs across all areas of the facility, ensuring standards are met even where issues aren’t immediately obvious.
Work independently and reliably; completes cleaning and laundry schedules on time and with minimal supervision, staying accountable for assigned areas.
Practice safety and infection control; follows proper procedures for handling cleaning chemicals, biohazard materials, and equipment to protect clients, staff, and self.
Manage supplies proactively; tracks inventory levels, anticipates reorder needs, and keeps accurate records to avoid shortages.
Maintain professionalism and discretion; respects client privacy and appropriate boundaries while working in and around patient care areas.
