The Tool and Die Assembly OJT Trainee assists in the assembly, fitting, testing, and maintenance of tooling used in manufacturing operations. Under the supervision of experienced toolmakers and supervisors, the trainee gains practical experience in bench work, precision fitting, safe material handling, and die assembly while complying with company safety, quality, and 5S standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the assembly and disassembly of dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and other tooling components.
• Perform bench work including filing, deburring, polishing, tapping, reaming, scraping, and hand fitting of precision components.
• Fit and align punches, die inserts, guide posts, bushings, heel blocks, and other die components to achieve proper clearances and functional operation.
• Assist in spotting, adjustment, and trial assembly of tooling to ensure dimensional accuracy and smooth operation.
• Operate overhead cranes and lifting equipment under supervision to safely transport dies, tooling, and heavy machine components.
• Use lifting accessories such as slings, shackles, eyebolts, and lifting fixtures in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Inspect tooling components using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges, feeler gauges, and gauge blocks.
• Identify damaged, worn, or defective tooling components and report findings for repair or replacement.
• Assist in troubleshooting assembly issues and implementing corrective actions during die build and maintenance.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the assembly area following 5S and workplace safety standards.
• Record assembly activities, inspection results, and daily accomplishments as assigned.
• Participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) activities and support other assembly-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

• Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Tool and Die Engineering Technology, or a related technical program.
• Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, hand tools, and mechanical assemblies.
• Physically capable of performing bench work and handling tooling with appropriate lifting equipment.
• Safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn precision tool and die assembly processes.
