Responsible for building R&D prototypes, mockups, and products while collaborating with engineering teams to support innovative developments. Performs complex assembly operations using technical drawings, 3D models, and various shop tools to ensure high-quality craftsmanship.
Requirements
Requires basic job-related courses or vocational training and typically two or more years of assembly experience. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Responsible for building R&D prototypes, mockups, and products with direction of shop supervisor. Work with a diverse engineering and build team to perform a variety of tasks to support innovative product developments from concept through production.
The level of R&D Prototype Build Specialist (i.e.: I, II, etc.) is dependent upon years of experience and applicable skill level in performing required tasks inside the department from the most basic essential duties to the more complex duties as determined by management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned:
Assemble/build R&D products including concept mockup, spatial mockup, functional prototype, test articles, and high-end show mockup.
Performs a variety of moderate to complex production assembly operations.
Utilizes diagrams, drawings, 3D model-based definition (MBD), work orders, and oral and written instructions to assemble products and sub-assemblies.
Must be able to read and interpret 2D technical drawings as well as 3D MBD.
Uses a variety of hand tools or production equipment. Is cross trained in many of the shop processes.
Advanced knowledge and understanding using BMS and BAC specifications, and other types of aerospace specifications.
Maintains a high level of quality/craftsmanship. Does basic troubleshooting, problem solving, and works with Planners and Engineers to solve problems.
Tools and machines that are used: band saw, disk sander, rivet gun, router, drills, 3D printer, 4-axis CNC, power supplies and a variety of hand tools. Materials include steel, aluminum, wood, plastics, adhesives, laminates, composite fiberglass/resins, and various rapid prototype materials.
Foster a team-oriented culture to production/procurement personnel to achieve effective workflow and high quality of product.
Foster a cohesive team environment which builds confidence, morale, and a strong sense of team. Empower employees so that each recognizes their role in achieving and maintaining high quality workmanship.
Demonstrates desire to develop effective and supportive working relationships with mechanics/Engineers, thereby building mutual respect. (Ask questions and listen to what the mechanics/Engineers say.)
Analyze and resolve problems in the build flow to ensure optimum efficiency.
Shop Area
Identify and recommend measures to optimize production methods, efficiency of shop, equipment performance, and quality of product.
Keep the shop clean and organized.
Tools
Control and maintain optimal combination of tools to facilitate rapid prototype builds. This should include a wide range of tools that can accommodate any situation that may arise in an R&D environment as well as a set of tools commonly used by Jamco on seats that the final product should be designed to use. Inform R&D Operation Supervisor of any tool needs.
Inventory & Inspection
Maintain a simplified R&D inventory and inspection process that maintains the right amount of documentation and control to meet R&D’s needs. Inspect products during builds and consult with engineers to ensure quality and definition are adequately defined for the build.
Track Build Status
Maintain build schedule based upon build scope and BOM. Track daily/weekly status to show build progress and to drive demand dates for design and suppliers.

Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
Position requires basic job-related courses or training in a non-technical or vocational field.
This position may require you to drive a company vehicle and will require a clean driving record. As a pre-employment contingency and prior to being appointed in this role you will be required to present a Valid Washington State Driver’s license and may need to provide Jamco America with a current driving record from the state of Washington’s Motor Vehicles office documenting your current driving record status within the past three years. Position may also require that you submit to periodic screening of your driving record.
Moderate travel within the U.S. and abroad may be required to support JAMCO America programs.
Language Skill
Ability to read and interpret documents such as stately rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Level Definition
Level I
Under close supervision trains to assemble and rework units in a production environment. Utilizes visual aids, drawings, and oral/written instructions to assemble products.
This is the entry level assembler position with no experience required.
Level II
Will perform a variety of moderately complex production assembly operations. Can read diagrams, drawings, and work orders. Will use diagrams/drawings/work orders along with oral/written instructions to assemble products and sub-assemblies with occasional supervision. Effectively uses a variety of hand tools or production equipment. Does basic troubleshooting and problem solve. Is cross trained in many of the area processes. Has a basic understanding of using BMS, BAC, JMS and other types of specifications?
This is the intermediate level assembler position typically requiring 1 year of assembly experience.
Level Journeyman
Will perform a variety of moderate to complex production assembly operations with little to no supervision. Can read, understand, utilize diagrams, drawings, work orders, and oral/written instructions to assemble products and sub-assemblies. Proficient in the use of a variety of hand tools or production equipment. Is cross trained in many of the shop processes. Has an advanced knowledge and understanding of using BMS, BAC, JMS and other types of specifications? Is trained in all area processes. Maintains and consistently outputs a high level of quality/craftsmanship. Does basic troubleshooting and problem solving and works with Planners and Engineers to solve problems.
This is the advanced level assembler position typically requiring 2 or more years of assembly experience.
Level Sr Journeyman
Meets all Level III requirements. Has in-depth knowledge of all jobs within the area and can fill in for other department personnel. Can, within reason, answer questions and advise other employees regarding job duties and expectations. Is able to
perform basic training and monitoring of new employee performance. Has basic ability to plan, organize, and delegate work. Responsible for smaller jobs or projects. Maintains a high level of quality/craftsmanship.
This is the senior level assembler position typically requiring 3 or more years of related experience.
