Responsibilities
The Lead BCBA/LBA provides clinical leadership and supervision for behavior analytic services within residential community living settings. They are responsible for ensuring clinical fidelity, staff training, and the development of effective behavior support plans across all environments.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field and be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with active state licensure. A minimum of 4 years of experience in ABA services and 2 years of clinical staff supervision is required.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead BCBA/LBA is responsible for the clinical leadership, supervision, and performance of behavior analytic services within Community Living.
This role ensures that all behavioral services are:
Clinically sound
Consistently implemented
Aligned with BACB standards, Missouri LBA regulations, DMH expectations, and BHA policies
The Lead BCBA/LBA maintains a reduced caseload while overseeing:
Supervision and development of BCBAs and clinical staff
Review and approval of behavior plans and assessments
Referral review and clinical appropriateness of incoming individuals
System-wide fidelity of implementation within residential environments
This role operates within a DSP-implemented residential model, requiring strong focus on:
Staff training systems
Clinical consistency across homes
Real-time problem solving
The Lead BCBA/LBA is accountable for ensuring that clinical services are effective, scalable, and implemented with fidelity across all environments and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
Master’s or Doctoral degree in ABA, Psychology, Special Education, or related field
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) required
Active state licensure (MO and/or KS as applicable)
Completion of BACB 8-hour supervision training
Minimum 4+ years experience in ABA services
Minimum 2 years supervising clinical staff preferred
Experience in residential or intensive behavioral settings preferred
Skills & Competencies
Valid driver’s license meeting transportation requirements (Missouri Class E, out-of-state equivalent, or CDL with Passenger/School Bus endorsement).

Directly supervise BCBAs/LBAs and clinical staff

Monitor and improve clinical performance across the team
BOARD SUPERVISION & CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT
Provide supervision to individuals pursuing BCBA certification in accordance with BACB requirements
Ensure all supervision meets:
o BACB standards
o Documentation requirements
o Competency expectations
Mentor clinicians in:
o Assessment
o Treatment planning
o Ethical decision-making
o Staff training and fidelity
PLAN REVIEW & CLINICAL APPROVAL
Review and approve:
o Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
o Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
o Skill acquisition programs
Ensure all plans are:
o Clinically appropriate
o Evidence-based
o Aligned with regulatory requirements
Provide corrective feedback and require revisions as needed
REFERRAL & INTAKE OVERSIGHT
Serve as clinical lead for referral review process
Assess appropriateness of all potential individuals served, including:
o Behavioral complexity
o Safety risks
o Environmental fit
o Staffing and training needs
Provide recommendations regarding:
o Acceptance
o Required supports
o Clinical risks
Ensure appropriate clinical planning is in place prior to admission
CLINICAL SERVICE DELIVERY
Maintain a caseload (reduced relative to BCBA role)
Conduct assessments and develop BSPs
Analyze data and adjust programming
Provide crisis support and planning
Ensure outcomes are measurable and effective
STAFF TRAINING & FIDELITY SYSTEMS
Oversee training systems for DSPs and RBTs
Ensure BCBAs are effectively training staff
Monitor fidelity across homes and teams
Identify gaps and implement corrective action
Ensure consistency across shifts and environments
QUALITY ASSURANCE & COMPLIANCE
Monitor clinical KPIs and performance metrics
Conduct audits of documentation and services
Ensure compliance with:
o BACB
o MO LBA
o DMH
o Medicaid requirements
Participate in incident review and corrective action planning
ACCOUNTABILITY & IMPACT
The Lead BCBA/LBA is directly accountable for the performance, quality, and consistency of all behavioral services within Community Living.
This role is responsible for ensuring:
BCBAs are performing effectively
BSPs are clinically sound and implemented with fidelity
Staff are trained and competent
Referrals are clinically appropriate
Clinical systems are consistent and scalable
The Lead BCBA/LBA is expected to lead, manage, and continuously improve the clinical system, not simply oversee individual cases.
Failure to meet these expectations may result in corrective action, as performance directly impacts client safety, outcomes, and regulatory compliance.
OTHER DUTIES
Participate in organizational initiatives and strategic planning
Conduct staff training, supervision, and performance evaluations as assigned
Participate in on-call rotations for behavioral crisis response
Complete all documentation, billing, and reporting requirements in accordance with BHA and regulatory guidelines
Uphold BHA’s mission and values in all work performed
