Johnson Controls helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.
For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it matters most, backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services, and a strong field organization focused on customer outcomes.
Role Overview
As a Fire Installer V, you will install, program, troubleshoot, configure, commission, and service fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites. This role places a strong emphasis on networked fire alarm systems, while also supporting panel repair and reprogramming, device replacement and repair, low-voltage circuit troubleshooting, and system testing.
Key Responsibilities
Perform installation, programming, troubleshooting, configuration, commissioning, and servicing of fire alarm systems.
Handle panel repair and reprogramming, device replacement and repair, low-voltage circuit troubleshooting, and system testing.
Support the programming of fire alarm, security, and access control system panels, with primary focus on networked fire alarm systems.
Respond to customer service calls in a timely and efficient manner and complete troubleshooting and repair work as needed.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, software/system programs, and operational/product manuals.
Supervise and inspect equipment installation to help ensure customer and contract specifications are met.
Organize technical resources, information, materials, and support to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
Complete required certification courses and submit task, activity, productivity, and other documentation on time.
How You Will Do It
Own each service call with safety, accountability, and integrity, and deliver work that customers can rely on.
Stay close to the work, understand the site conditions, and remove obstacles quickly so customer issues are resolved without delay.
Use a methodical approach to diagnostics, test the system thoroughly, and work toward the root cause rather than temporary fixes.
Keep communication clear with customers, dispatch, and teammates so everyone understands the plan, status, and next steps.
Apply a continuous-improvement mindset by documenting findings accurately, sharing candid observations, and learning from each job.
Work collaboratively across functions and sites, drawing on the strengths of the team to deliver the best result.
Qualifications
At least 5 years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety Systems.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
Experience with hand tools, test equipment, multi-meter usage, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
Basic understanding of network concepts and architectures.
Ability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
Overnight travel may be required.
Strong customer service skills and the ability to lead and work well with team members.
Ability to follow and always apply safety guidelines and procedures.
Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
Ability to obtain and retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.
Nice to Have
Two-year Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Network, Computer Science, or a related field.
NICET level II, or the ability to obtain it within the first year.
