Department Overview
Our Security Operations team plays a vital role in keeping the Bank of England safe, secure and welcoming for everyone who works in or visits our sites. The team protects our people, buildings, information and assets while supporting the smooth running of a nationally important organisation.
As part of the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure, the Bank offers a unique environment where security colleagues work with professionalism, care and attention to detail. You will be joining a disciplined and supportive team that works closely with internal teams, law enforcement and external partners.
This is a varied front-line role for someone who takes pride in providing a professional service, enjoys working with people and can remain calm and focused in a busy operational setting.
Job description
We are looking for Security Officers to help protect the Bank’s people, buildings, information and assets. You will provide a visible, professional and reassuring presence across our Threadneedle Street and Moorgate sites, helping colleagues, visitors and stakeholders feel safe, supported and welcome.
In this role, you will use your judgement, communication skills and observational skills to identify potential risks, respond to incidents and escalate concerns in line with agreed procedures. No two shifts are the same, and you will be part of a team that values reliability, professionalism and teamwork.
The Security Operations team works 24/7, and this role follows a rotational shift pattern. This includes early, late and night shifts, as well as weekends and public holidays where required. The pattern also provides regular time away from work between shifts.
You may work across a range of security posts, including perimeter positions, internal security areas and the control room, depending on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Front‑Line Security Operations
Provide a professional, visible and reassuring security presence across the site.
Welcome and support colleagues, visitors, members of the public and senior stakeholders in a courteous and confident way.
Carry out security duties such as guarding, internal and external patrols, searches, and checks of deliveries or mail where required.
Stay alert to unusual activity or potential security risks and take appropriate action in line with procedures.
Building, Asset & Perimeter Protection
Help protect the Bank’s buildings, infrastructure and high-value assets through effective monitoring and response.
Monitor activity around the perimeter, identify potential risks and report concerns promptly and accurately.
Support a safe, secure and professional environment for everyone using or visiting the site.
Control Room Operations (when deployed)
Under the direction of the Security Shift Supervisor, Security Officers may be required to operate within the control room, including:
Monitor CCTV, alarms, access control and fire systems to identify and respond to incidents or anomalies.
Record incidents, alarms and actions accurately, keeping clear logs in line with procedures.
Maintain clear communication with officers on the ground, supervisors and other relevant teams.
Escalate issues quickly and appropriately to support a coordinated security response.
Incident & Emergency Response
Respond calmly and effectively to security incidents, alarms and emergency situations.
Follow emergency procedures, including supporting evacuations, as directed.
Provide first aid where trained and required.
Support supervisors and emergency services by preserving scene integrity and providing accurate information.
Reporting Line
The Security Officer reports directly to the Security Shift Supervisor.
Shift pattern: You will work a 3 days on / 3 days off rotational shift pattern, giving you regular time away from work between shifts. The rota includes early, late and night duties, with weekend and public holiday cover where needed. You will also take part in two additional training days each month, helping you stay confident, prepared and supported in the role.
Role Requirements
Minimum Criteria
Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate incident reports and engage professionally with visitors, VIPs and senior stakeholders.
Evidence of working effectively in a high-security, high-demand or operational environment, where procedures, vigilance and consistency are required.
Demonstrable physical capability to undertake the requirements of the role, including standing for extended periods and carrying out patrols during long shifts.
Experience of monitoring or operating security systems, such as CCTV, alarms or access control systems.
Demonstrable ability to respond appropriately to security incidents, including following emergency procedures and escalating issues when required.

Demonstrable record-keeping skills, including maintaining accurate daily activity logs and preparing factual incident reports for management review.
Commitment to delivering a professional, customer-focused security service, including maintaining a respectful and reassuring presence.
Evidence of flexibility and teamwork, including supporting supervisors, adapting to operational priorities and covering additional duties when required.
Desirable Criteria
Valid frontline SIA Licence or proven evidence of completion of SIA frontline training.
Current First Aid certification or evidence of relevant first aid training.
CCTV operator qualification or demonstrable experience operating CCTV systems in a security environment.
