The technician is responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instrumentation to the operating room and other hospital areas. They must maintain sterile and non-sterile supplies while ensuring all equipment functions properly according to industry standards.
A high school diploma or GED is required, and no prior experience is necessary for the role. Certification as a CRCST or through IAHCSMM is preferred.
Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children’s at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been designated as a Magnet®-recognized organization for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care.
Services provided by Central Processing Services (CPS) include decontamination, prep and assembly, pasteurization, sterilization, patient care equipment control, and stocking and distribution of a variety of procedure carts and totes.
Role Purpose
The Sterile Processing Technician performs a variety of central sterile processing functions, which include the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of sterile surgical instrumentation to the operating room (OR) and other areas throughout the hospital. Required to maintain and control both sterile and non-sterile supplies, and identify and remedy equipment and process failures and hazards while maintaining the appropriate and complete records.
