A day in the life of a Manager, GTM Pricing, Costing & Margin at Altra looks a little like this.
The Manager will report to the Director of FP&A and serve as the finance leader responsible for driving end-to-end margin management across Altra's Go-To-Market (GTM) process. This role will partner closely with Product Development, Operations, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure pricing, costing, and profitability objectives are integrated into business decisions from product concept through commercialization.
As the owner of the brand's margin management process, this individual will establish pricing and profitability frameworks, identify risks and opportunities throughout the product lifecycle, and drive actions that support sustainable revenue growth and gross margin expansion. The role will consolidate pricing, costing, margin governance, and product profitability management into a single integrated function within Global Brand Finance. Regional Finance teams will provide market-specific financial guardrails and targets, while Product Development and Operations teams will provide demand and volume assumptions that are incorporated into profitability models and GTM decision-making processes.
Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.
Margin Management & GTM Governance
Own and lead the end-to-end margin management process across the GTM calendar from concept through commercialization.
Establish and monitor margin targets by category and product classification aligned with brand strategic and financial objectives incorporating financial guardrails.
Embed financial governance and profitability reviews into key GTM milestones and decision-making forums.
Partner with Merchandising, Product Development, and Operations teams to evaluate product and assortment decisions against financial targets.
Identify margin risks and opportunities throughout the GTM process and drive actions to improve profitability outcomes.
Present margin performance, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to Brand and Finance leadership teams.
Pricing Strategy, IMU Management & Analytics
Lead the development of global pricing frameworks and seasonal pricing architecture that support brand growth, consumer value perception, and profitability objectives.
Partner closely with Global Merchandising to develop category-specific pricing strategies and establish the financial framework required to achieve IMU targets across the product portfolio.
Evaluate category and style-level profitability to ensure pricing recommendations support brand financial objectives, regional margin requirements, and long-term marketplace positioning.
Develop and maintain pricing models, analytical tools, and reporting frameworks that improve visibility into IMU performance, pricing opportunities, and margin outcomes throughout the GTM process.
Collaborate with Global Merchandising to evaluate assortment architecture, product segmentation, and pricing ladders to identify opportunities to improve IMU performance by category.
Conduct pricing analytics and assess competitive, consumer, and marketplace trends to support strategic pricing recommendations and profitability objectives.
Analyze the financial implications of line architecture, assortment decisions, pricing strategies, and product mix to drive profitable growth.
Partner with regional teams to evaluate pricing actions and profitability implications while balancing growth, marketplace competitiveness, and financial objectives.
Monitor macroeconomic, foreign exchange, tariff, and cost trends that may impact pricing strategies, IMU performance, and product profitability.
Provide ongoing visibility to IMU achievement against targets, highlighting risks, opportunities, and recommended actions throughout the GTM process
Costing & Product Profitability
Lead seasonal costing processes and ensure timely visibility to product costs throughout the product development lifecycle.
Partner closely with the FOB Director and Supply Chain Finance organization to establish cost targets, monitor cost performance, and identify opportunities to improve product profitability.
Develop financial frameworks that connect FOB costs, pricing decisions, and margin objectives to support GTM decision making.
Monitor and analyze cost and margin variances against financial targets, identifying key drivers and recommending corrective actions.
Build and maintain profitability models by style, category, and platform, incorporating merchandising strategies, regional financial guardrails, volume assumptions, and cost inputs.
Reconcile product-level profitability against financial commitments and ensure product categories remain aligned to gross margin and IMU objectives throughout the GTM process.
Evaluate the financial implications of sourcing, material, manufacturing, and product specification decisions on margin performance.
Partner with Supply Chain Finance, Product Development, and Merchandising to identify and prioritize opportunities for cost optimization and profitability improvement.
Provide ongoing visibility into product profitability performance, highlighting risks, opportunities, and recommended actions to Brand and Finance leadership.
Support critical GTM decision points by providing financial analysis and recommendations that balance consumer value, product strategy, and profitability objectives.

Serve as the primary finance partner for product profitability, pricing, costing, and margin management decisions across the GTM process.
Develop reporting, scorecards, and KPI frameworks that provide transparency into margin and profitability performance throughout the product lifecycle.
Integrate regional financial guardrails, market assumptions, and profitability requirements into product and GTM decision-making frameworks
Evaluate strategic initiatives, product investments, assortment decisions, and margin trade-offs through a profitability lens.
Lead ad hoc analyses and special projects focused on margin expansion, process improvement, and profitable growth.
Process Excellence & Leadership
Build and standardize global pricing, costing, profitability, and margin management processes across the organization.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance accountability, visibility, and financial decision-making throughout the GTM process.
