Full job description
Men are dying too young – and it doesn’t have to be that way.
Around the world, men are facing a health crisis: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and suicide. At Movember we’re on a mission to change the face of men’s health by making it easier for men to talk, act and live longer healthier lives.
Every project, every campaign, every idea adds up to real change. You’ll be part of a moustache-powered crew who believe making an impact and having fun should go hand in hand. Your mission is calling.
DO GOOD. Work for Movember.
Your Mo-Mission (should you choose to accept it):
Movember's technology team runs a global $100 million annual campaign and a suite of year-round digital products that reach millions of people. Behind every successful release, every flawless campaign night, and every engineer who grows into their best work is the kind of leadership this role provides.
As Engineering and Release Lead, you'll sit within Movember's engineering leadership team alongside the Principal Engineer and Solution Architect, reporting to the Director of Technology and Campaign Operations. This is a newly created role built around three critical pillars: people leadership of the software engineering team, ownership of release and build management, and accountability for production platform observability and operations.
On the people side, you'll provide direct line management for Movember's software engineers, running regular one-to-ones, setting clear expectations, and building individual development plans that give each engineer a genuine growth pathway. You'll work closely with your peer leaders to shape team culture, champion modern engineering practices, and create an environment where experimentation, craft, and continuous learning are not aspirations but everyday realities.
On the release and build side, you'll be the gatekeeper for how change flows through the product pipeline. You'll establish and enforce quality gates, release rhythms, and governance processes that ensure only well-tested, approved changes reach production. You'll implement and embed a "you build it, you run it" model, making operational accountability a natural part of how the team works rather than something bolted on after the fact.
On the observability and operations side, you'll own platform monitoring across the production environment, using insight to drive continuous improvement in reliability, performance, and incident response. You'll lead dress rehearsals and disaster recovery testing ahead of major releases and campaign periods, own the on-call and incident monitoring roster, and ensure post-incident reviews drive systemic learning rather than blame.
Campaign operations is a core part of this role. Movember's annual campaign is a high-stakes, time-critical event, and this role is responsible for ensuring the team is operationally ready, releases are managed to schedule, and nothing is left to chance when it matters most.
Movember is also on an active and accelerating journey to embed AI across its technology and operational practice. We're looking for a leader who is genuinely excited by that challenge: someone who can help the engineering team achieve outcomes that were previously out of reach, and build a culture where AI is a natural part of how great work gets done.
No Moustache Required - but the following are:
At least five years of experience in software engineering leadership or senior engineering roles, with demonstrated people management responsibility in a technical environment.
Demonstrated experience owning release and build management processes, including branch management, quality gates, release governance, and deployment pipelines in a cloud engineering context.
Demonstrated experience operating across complex back-end systems incorporating modern AWS patterns, APIs, event streaming, and multi-channel access.
Proven ability to build team culture and develop individual engineers, including setting development plans, coaching for performance, and fostering a psychologically safe and high-performing team environment.
Hands-on experience with platform observability tooling, including monitoring, alerting, dashboarding, and incident management practices in a production environment.
Practical experience implementing or operating a "you build it, you run it" model, including on-call rostering, production incident response, and disaster recovery testing.
Comfortable working in a small, peer-led technical leadership team, collaborating effectively with Principal Engineer and Solution Architect counterparts without clear hierarchical boundaries.
A strong communicator with the ability to represent engineering team health, release status, and operational metrics to senior stakeholders in a clear and actionable way.
A genuine interest in men's health.
Not Mission Critical - but for extra street cred:
Experience delivering technology in support of a time-critical annual event or campaign, including readiness rehearsals, live operations, and wind-down.
Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering practices, DevOps toolchains, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code practices that underpin modern release management.
Exposure to observability platforms such as Datadog, New Relic, or Grafana, and experience building or improving production monitoring maturity.
GOOD CAUSE:
Working for Movember, you’ll help turn ideas (and moustaches) into millions for men’s health. Every bit we raise changes the face of men’s health by funding research, improving treatments, and supporting programs that help save lives
We’re even shaping government policies on men’s health worldwide. By meeting directly with lawmakers, and helping them understand how more investment on men’s health benefits not just men, but all the communities they serve.
GOOD VIBES:
We love weekends. That’s why our Fridays finish early for nine months of the year. But we also love our office vibe. Because here, it always feels like something big is about to happen. Be it an office-wide surprise birthday party (with cake!) or an open invite for all to hit the pub.
Come the hairy season, the energy cranks up. We’re talking celebrity visits. Live stunts on-site for TV and radio. And when we hit a fundraising milestone, the office gong might even go off. But, for those who prefer calm, no probs: hybrid working means you work where you feel best.
GOOD CREW:
Spoiler alert: we’re a no-ego, all-impact crew. That means everyone gets a say, from new starters to those leading the charge. Collaboration over hierarchies, curiosity over rigid process. And it’s true across all our offices worldwide. We work as one, sharing expertise and celebrating wins. All in the name of making the biggest impact across the globe. United, we Mo.
We offer:
Flexible hybrid working from home and our modern Richmond office
Finish work at 2pm on Fridays (Dec-Aug)
NFP salary packaging (pay less tax)
13 weeks paid parental leave and 5 weeks annual leave
Fun & collaborative culture with employee social events
Free Headspace subscription and other wellbeing initiative
Relaxed dress code
Boy, do we know the feeling of being judged. (Over how we look, and other things that shouldn’t matter.) Being different is how we started. And it’s also helped us raise $1 billion for men’s health. So, we know the power of diverse experiences, skills and perspectives.
And another impressive number is our WGEA gender pay gap: it sits at a big, fat, round 0%. If you’ve got the relevant skills and the right attitude, let nothing stand in your way of firing off your application.
Movember is stronger when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are part of our crew. We want you to feel supported in exploring opportunities with us. That’s why before applying, we invite you to yarn with Raymond Rosendale, Australian Indigenous Programs Manager, in a virtual catch-up to talk about the role, our community work, or just to share ideas.
Do you want to DO GOOD? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Since 2003, Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding more than 1,300 projects around the world, challenging the status quo,
shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. Movember has taken on three of the biggest health
issues affecting men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide.
Movember has:
▪ Invested almost $350 million in over 600 biomedical research projects, focusing on prostate and testicular cancer.
▪ Funded 4 prostate cancer registries, with over 200,000 men enrolled from 23 countries.
▪ Supported interventions designed to assist and guide men through the prostate cancer journey, offering them resources and information so
that they are empowered to make their own decisions, manage symptoms and share lived experiences.
▪ Since taking on mental health and suicide as a cause area in 2006, Movember has united experts, funded bold new approaches and embraced
fresh perspectives. We’ve focused on prevention, early intervention, and health promotion through a male lens.
Movember is for everyone, not just for men. We are a health movement and our invitation to take part is open to everyone. We champion healthcare that
is sensitive to the needs of everyone, including men, so that everyone benefits. And we have a strong focus on how improving men's health can have a
profoundly positive impact on women, families, and society as a whole.
But we lead the charge in encouraging men to adopt healthy behaviours, challenging health systems and confronting gender norms to reduce health
inequalities and save more lives. To donate or learn more, please visit Movember.com.
