Full job description
Description:
The Associate Director, Commercial Training (Biosciences) is the strategic lead and tactical architect for the Biosciences learning ecosystem. This role is responsible for strategic planning, designing, facilitating, and executing a comprehensive training roadmap for oncology biosimilars, non-oncology biosimilars, and 505(b)(2) products through 2030. You will serve as a critical partner to leadership, ensuring the sales force can navigate complex Buy-and-Bill vs. Specialty Pharmacy dynamics, 340B nuances, and competitive positioning against both generics and innovators to drive organizational strategic goals. As an integral part of the sales team's success, a successful candidate in this role will have a deep knowledge of the strategic positioning of each of the in-market and launch products. This role collaborates with sales leadership and marketing to align training priorities, and designs and executes the training. This position will also have one direct report, a Commercial Events and Meetings Specialist, who will help manage logistics and meeting planning for the sales team.
An effective Associate Director, Commercial Training (Biosciences) will be measured by several factors including but not limited to:
Ability to create and execute relevant training content that prepares the salesperson to sell effectively. That includes product training, marketplace background, and real-world case-based selling scenarios.
Identify selling skills gaps and create agile content that addresses those gaps, as well as staying up to date on the changes happening in the markets where we complete.
The effectiveness and readiness of the field team as observed during sales calls (either by the trainer, the sales manager, or leadership). Ensure content, messaging and sales materials are being used properly, and field sales teams are confident selling through objections.
Essential Functions:
Strategy, Training Development and Curriculum Design:
This role sets the training priorities and is responsible for designing and executing the training.
The Associate Director, Sales Training has a seat at leadership planning meetings where launches, strategy, and commercial priorities are discussed.
They will need to be collaborative and agile while also working independently.
Design multi-year curricula and "launch-ready" strategies for the Biosciences portfolio; set the vision and themes for POAs, National Sales Meetings (NSM) and product launches.
Create blended learning solutions (in-person, virtual, and e-learning) utilizing adult learning principles and emerging technologies like AI to improve speed-to-proficiency.
Develop and update curriculum customized for each product and team based on learning objectives, therapy areas, market dynamics and practical real-world case studies.
Launch, Onboarding, Executional Excellence:
The trainer will need to engage with field sales via “ride a longs” to assess if training content is being executed based on agreed objectives and bring solutions to observed gaps in training.
Lead the onboarding of new sales teams, conducting baseline gap assessments and developing follow-up content as needed on disease states, products, and selling skills.
Facilitate main-stage presentations and workshops; oversee the operationalization of training modules, certifications, and assignments within the company’s LMS to ensure appropriate execution of the sales training function.
Operations, Collaboration and Partnership: Partner with Marketing, Operations, HR, IT, Medical, Market Access, and Compliance to ensure training aligns with pull-through strategies and regulatory requirements.
Manage vendors focused on training development and operations and provide support and direction to field sales trainers to ensure consistent execution.
Manage the training L&D budget and oversee vendor partnerships for content creation; ensure proficiency in CRM and analytical tools (Veeva, Power BI, etc.).
People Management:
Manage one team member; Commercial Events and Meetings Specialist.
Provide direction and professional development to ensure growth in role and support for special projects when needed.
Helps oversee NSM, POAs and professional industry events including but not limited to agendas, registration, logistics support, field communications and post-event follow-ups.
