BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Analyst, State Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Compliance, supports SouthStar Energy's (SSE) regulatory and compliance functions across the states in which the company operates. The incumbent assists in monitoring, interpreting, and implementing regulatory requirements to ensure the company’s operations comply with state and federal regulations. The Analyst will help prepare regulatory filings, conduct research and analysis, support compliance audits, and assist in maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
The position can be hired as anAnalyst I (GL3), Analyst II (GL4), and Analyst III (GL5). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill(s), and/or ability required.
Track and summarize new and existing regulations and rulemakings from Public Utility Commissions (PUCs), Attorneys General (AG), and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Conduct research and analysis and prepare regulatory summary information and compliance impact analyses with the State Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Compliance Manager, for SSE leadership review.
Support the State Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Compliance Manager in identifying compliance obligations resulting from new or revised regulations.
Assist with preparation and submission of required regulatory filings, including certification applications, renewals, annual reports, and periodic compliance reports.
Help maintain and update compliance policies, procedures, and internal documentation to align with regulatory requirements.
Assist in internal compliance audits, risk assessments, and follow-up actions to ensure corrective measures are implemented.
Support the tracking and resolution of compliance issues, including coordination with internal business owners and external vendors.
Support the State Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Compliance Manager in preparing materials for regulatory proceedings, hearings, and stakeholder meetings.
Participate in internal meetings to communicate regulatory updates and compliance expectations.
Assist in responding to customer complaint investigations and regulatory inquiries, coordinating with the Consumer Relations team as needed.
Participate in cross-functional projects, as appropriate, to ensure compliance considerations are addressed in design and implementation phases.
Contribute to continuous improvement of compliance tracking systems and reporting tools.
Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the State Regulatory Affairs and Regulatory Compliance Manager and the Governmental Affairs Director.
Analyst I
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Policy, Political Science, Legal Studies, Economics, or related field.
Experience
0-2 years of experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, energy, utilities, government affairs, public policy, legal support, or a related analytical role.
Preferred
Internship or co-op experience in a regulated industry, public utility, government agency, or compliance function.
Analyst II
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Policy, Political Science, Legal Studies, Economics, or related field.
Experience
2-4 years of experience in regulatory affairs, regulatory compliance, public policy analysis, utility regulation, energy markets, or related field.
Strong analytical and critical thinking with attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interpret complex regulations and summarize key impacts.
High ethical standards and sound professional judgment.
Strong organizational and time management skills; able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, and data management tools.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid work schedule: 4 days in office and 1 day remote (subject to change based on business needs).
Occasional travel may be required for meetings or regulatory proceedings.
