To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the position satisfactorily. The requirements listed in this document are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Tippecanoe County provides reasonable accommodation to qualified employees and applicants with known disabilities who require accommodation to complete the application process or perform essential functions of the job, unless the accommodation would present an undue hardship.
Incumbent serves as Resident Care/Environmental Services for the Tippecanoe County Tippecanoe Villa, responsible for assisting elderly, blind and disabled residents with daily living, cleaning resident living and public areas, offices, and laundry, both facility and personal.
DUTIES:
Assists residents with bathing, selecting clothing and dressing, including providing reminders and assistance regarding personal/oral hygiene. Reports sores, bruises and behavioral changes to supervisor as required.
Cleans resident rooms and bathrooms daily, including emptying trash, cleaning and sanitizing/mopping/sweeping floors, and dusting furniture and fixtures. Periodically cleans resident closets and drawers. Thoroughly cleans resident rooms at least annually, including washing ceilings, walls, windows and furniture.
Cleans all public areas, offices. Moving furniture as needed, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and periodically stripping, waxing, and buffing floors and shampooing carpets. Dusts/wipes/sanitizes various surfaces such as windowsills, handrails, baseboards, drinking fountains, fixtures, and furniture.
Cleans and sanitizes public bathrooms including cleaning sinks, tubs, toilets, walls, mirrors, and floors, replenishes soap and paper supplies.
Changes bed linens weekly, or as needed. Collects soiled clothing from residents' rooms and delivers to laundry area for washing. Assists in returning clean clothing to residents' rooms and assists in placing clean linens in storage areas.
Launders residents clothing daily, including reading clothing tags and sorting for proper care, marking for identification, pretreating stains, washing, drying, folding, and distributing. Makes sewing repairs and alterations as needed.
Launders bed and bath linens, including marking, washing, drying, folding and placing in linen closets. Notifies management when linens are in poor repair and need replaced.
Assists residents at mealtime as assigned by serving hot beverages and carrying trays to/from residents' tables. Monitors residents at mealtime to ensure all report for meals. Reports to nursing staff any abnormal issues with any residents.
Maintains supply and chemical inventory and submit weekly order to Assistant director
Assists in keeping sidewalks cleaned and salted during winter when maintenance staff is not here or available.
Assists with resident wellness checks during the night.
Maintains record of daily work activity.
Occasionally transports residents to and from appointments.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGES:
High school diploma or GED.
Possession of certification in CPR/AED.
Working knowledge of principles and practices of good hygiene, and ability to apply such knowledge in assisting residents with physical and mental disabilities.
Working knowledge of standard housekeeping procedures and ability to properly mix and use cleaning and laundry chemicals, fabric care and related tools, such mops and brooms, buffers, floor stripper, carpet cleaner, home & commercial washers, dryers, iron, snow shovel, lawn mower, and rake.
Working knowledge of universal health precautions and blood borne pathogens control, and ability to apply such knowledge to prevent infection of self and others.
Ability to communicate orally in a tactful, courteous, and positive manner with co workers, residents and their families, and other visitors, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to State requirements.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written and oral instructions, and present findings in oral or written form.
Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision.
Ability to work rapidly for long periods, work on several tasks at the same time, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs simple, repetitive duties according to well-established guidelines. Incumbent receives general instructions and performs most duties under minimum supervision. A low degree of skill is required to prevent damage to tools.
Incumbent reports directly to Director of Nursing and/or Assistant Director
III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains communication with co workers, residents and their families, and other visitors for purposes of exchanging information and assisting/instructing disabled residents.
IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent's duties involve walking/standing for long periods, pushing/ pulling/lifting/carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, bending, reaching, crouching/ kneeling, hearing sounds/communication, and handling/grasping objects.
V. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbent performs duties in a residential care facility for persons with physical and mental disorders, involving occasionally working on ladders, and exposure to minimum hazards associated with handling soiled laundry and standard cleaning chemicals, for which universal safety and health precautions must be followed at all times to prevent infection/injury to self and others. Occasional encounters dealing with agitated residents.
Incumbent occasionally works extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
