Our Mission: Creating a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive economy for all New Yorkers.
Position Overview:
New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) is seeking a Project Manager to support its Business Development team in attracting, expanding, and retaining businesses across New York City. This role will work directly with companies exploring growth opportunities in NYC, helping them navigate site selection, real estate, incentives, workforce connections, and strategic partnerships.
The Project Manager will support projects across NYC’s commercial and industrial corridors, with a focus on priority sectors including technology, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, green economy, and other emerging industries. The role requires strong relationship-building and proactive lead generation, including engagement with brokers, property owners, site selectors, BIDs, chambers of commerce, local economic development organizations, community stakeholders, and international partners.
Working closely with the Director of Business Development, this position will help strengthen NYC’s competitiveness, grow the business attraction pipeline, and create economic opportunities for New Yorkers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Advise businesses and their management teams on relocation or expansion opportunities in NYC, including site selection, incentives, workforce connections, and strategic ecosystem introductions.
Assist businesses in evaluating commercial and industrial real estate opportunities, including neighborhood fit, operational needs, workforce access, and ecosystem alignment.
Organize site tours, partner meetings, and market visits for prospective businesses, including office, industrial, manufacturing, and research locations.
Develop tailored proposals, pitch decks, memorandums, presentations, and other materials that communicate NYC’s value proposition and project recommendations to internal and external audiences.
Manage business development projects from intake through execution, including project plans, analyses, timelines, stakeholder coordination, and follow-up actions.
Maintain NYCEDC’s business development pipeline using CRM tools, KPIs, project tracking, and regular reporting.
Conduct company, industry, and market research to identify business attraction targets and strategic growth opportunities, with a focus on NYC’s industrial and green economy sectors.
Cultivate relationships with companies, brokers, site selectors, business improvement districts (BIDs), industrial business zones (IBZs), chambers of commerce, industry organizations, and international partners to generate new leads and expand NYCEDC’s pipeline.
Coordinate with local, state, and international partners, including diplomatic missions and trade organizations, to support business attraction, foreign direct investment, and NYC promotion efforts.
Represent NYCEDC at industry conferences, networking events, trade missions, panels, stakeholder gatherings, and business meetings to promote NYC as a destination for business growth and investment.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of relevant experience in business development, commercial or industrial real estate, economic development, brokerage, international trade, local economic development, or a related field.
Experience managing client-facing projects, stakeholder relationships, or business development opportunities.
Familiarity with NYC commercial real estate markets, industrial business districts, neighborhood economic development, or emerging industries is preferred.
Demonstrated communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex information to senior leaders and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and engage confidently with companies, property owners, brokers, public-sector partners, community stakeholders, and international partners.
Proven analytical and project management skills, including the ability to interpret information, develop recommendations, manage timelines, and coordinate multiple priorities.
Experience using CRM tools, such as Microsoft Dynamics or Salesforce, and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is preferred.
Ability to travel within the five boroughs of New York City and attend evening or occasional weekend meetings as needed.
New York City residency is required within 180 days of hire.
