Are you a driven Engineer in Training (EIT) eager to build your career and help shape the future of a growing city? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where you can develop your technical expertise, project coordination, and negotiation skills under professional mentorship? If so, the City of Edmonton has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an EIT – Development Engineering.
Reporting to the Senior Development Engineer, you will play an integral role in supporting the development and servicing of new land and infill developments between the City of Edmonton and the private development industry. Working closely with Professional Engineers (P.Eng.), you will gain hands-on experience influencing many aspects of the land development process—from initial planning and engineering design reviews to financial cost-sharing mechanisms and contract administration.

What will you do?
Under the supervision and mentorship of Professional Engineers, you will:
Support the negotiation, preparation, and administration of multi-million dollar infill servicing agreements with developers on behalf of the City and private utility companies
Analyze and review professional engineering drawings under mentorship to ensure compliance with conditions of subdivision approval and City Design and Construction Standards
Participate in and support pre-circulation meetings to help align requirements from various approval agencies prior to drawing circulation
Process, track, and manage projects and engineering submissions through online platforms (ePlan and eServices)
Assist in analyzing municipal infrastructure cost-sharing mechanisms, including learning the practical application of development levies such as Arterial Roadway Assessments (ARAs) and Permanent Area Contributions (PACs)
Serve as a secondary point of contact for routine inquiries regarding servicing, levies, and land development requirements from developers, consultants, and internal partners
Assist in reviewing and processing Construction Completion Certificates (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificates (FAC) for developer-built infrastructure
Support process improvement initiatives, research best practices for corporate policies, and perform additional related duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
Must be registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA (in good standing) and working towards a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
Conditions of employment:
Up to: 1 permanent full-time position and 1 temporary full-time position for up to 18 months
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
