Job Description
Are you ready to make an impact in chemical manufacturing? As a Health Safety Environmental (HSE) Specialist at Tessenderlo Kerley, you’ll support HSE programs across our chemical manufacturing plants, labs, farms and corporate office. This role offers a unique opportunity to dive deep into environmental program coordination while actively contributing to safety initiatives.
If you’re a team player with a background in science, engineering, or HSE, this could be a great opportunity for you!
Why Join Tessenderlo Kerley?
In this role, you will develop a diverse set of skills while gaining practical experience in environmental and safety programs. You will address complex challenges, collaborate closely with plant managers, and have a direct influence on the corporate safety strategy. Your efforts will contribute to enhancing our well-established safety culture across our manufacturing environments.
What You’ll Do:
Conduct HSE Assessments: Regularly assess facilities to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
Coordinate Key Programs: Manage medical monitoring, fertilizer registration, and Safety Data Sheet programs.
Drive HSE Initiatives: Support company-wide initiatives, develop safety procedures, and provide training to employees across the company.
Engage with Regulatory Standards: Analyze standards from OSHA, DOT and the EPA to ensure operational compliance and identify impacts on the business.
Support Environmental Permitting and Waste Management: Participate in environmental reporting, hazardous waste management and air permitting.
Lead New Hire Orientation: Provide essential safety orientation for new team members.
Qualifications
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or an HSE-related discipline, with experience in health, safety and the environment.
Knowledge of Regulations: A familiarity with OSHA, EPA, DOT and NFPA regulations and state standards.
Interpersonal Skills: A strong communicator who can work effectively across all levels and present confidently to large groups.
Self-Motivated & Team-Oriented: Proactive in finding improvements, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
Willingness to Travel: Up to 20% travel to support various sites.
What Success Looks Like:
In your first six months in this role, you will complete mandatory training, visit at least three plants, master the fertilizer registration process, and build a strong understanding of sulfur chemistry and the environmental permitting process. By the end of your first year, you will contribute to plant assessments, support environmental permit compliance, and assist with OSHA programs, making a meaningful impact on our HSE goals.
Must-Haves:
Team Player: Eager to collaborate and assist where needed.
Motivated & Adaptable: Self-starter, open to feedback, and adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment.
Onsite Presence: This role is based at our Phoenix corporate office, with an option of one remote day per week once you become familiar with your position.
Nice-to-Have:
Environmental Permitting Experience: Prior exposure to air, water or waste permits.
Benefits & Growth:
Join us to advance as an HSE professional, with opportunities to pursue industry-recognized credentials like Registered Environmental Manager and Associate Safety Professional.
At Tessenderlo Kerley, you will find a supportive environment to grow personally and professionally, with pathways to advance within the HSE team.
