Company Description
Come grow with us.
Balancing the world’s need for safe, reliable water with protecting this critical natural resource for the future requires a deep understanding of interconnected systems.
We work with clients across the entire project life cycle — from initial planning studies through final construction and operations and maintenance services — on both traditional and alternative project-delivery options (design-build, public-private partnerships and financing).
With a robust design and construction division, AECOM offers a unique perspective on designing projects that are fully constructible.
Everyone belongs at AECOM
We’re committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - because great ideas come from diverse perspectives. AECOM is proud to be a Fortune 500 Most Admired Company, a WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality, #Work180 Equitable Workplace Awards 2025 Winner and an AWEI Bronze Tier LGBTQ+ Inclusive Employer.
Job Description
Due to significant contract awards within our ANZ Water business, we are expanding our Water Infrastructure team. These projects provide a secure 10-year pipeline of work and the opportunity to deliver some of Australia's most significant water infrastructure projects.
Our Water Infrastructure group delivers projects across water and wastewater treatment, dams, asset management, major conveyance, industrial, civil infrastructure, mining and defence. As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers across the team and work closely with clients to deliver high-quality, sustainable outcomes.
How you'll make a difference
Deliver structural design solutions for complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve high-quality outcomes.
Play a hands-on technical role across the full project lifecycle, from bids and concept design through to detailed design, construction support and technical assurance.
Help deliver projects successfully by balancing technical quality, programme and budget, while applying sound engineering judgement.
Build trusted relationships with clients and project teams, providing technical advice and contributing to successful project outcomes.
Support business development through proposal preparation, technical input and identifying opportunities to grow AECOM's Water business.
Mentor and support developing engineers, fostering technical excellence while continuing to build your own expertise and industry profile.
Qualifications
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don't tick every box, we still encourage you to apply.
The qualities that help you thrive
Relevant tertiary qualifications
Proven experience in structural engineering, ideally within the water industry.
Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery and mentoring engineering teams.
Strong knowledge of Australian structural design standards and experience with structural analysis software such as SpaceGass and/or Strand7.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Chartered (CPEng/RPEQ) registration is highly regarded.
Additional Information
Why you’ll love working with us
Flexible work arrangements, including alternative start/finish times, job-sharing and hybrid work options
Purchase up to 6 weeks additional annual leave per year
Volunteer and representation leave
Flex public holidays – swap Easter or other holidays for ones that suit you better
