Responsibilities
You will own the development of Pilotbase's Pilot Experience Solutions, focusing on offline-first mobile architecture and data synchronization across React Native and iOS platforms. Additionally, you will mentor team members, collaborate with stakeholders, and integrate AI-assisted workflows into the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
Candidates must have 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong background in React Native or native iOS development. Proficiency in offline-first mobile architectures, AWS, MongoDB, and a high-agency approach to independent problem-solving are required.
Full job description
About Pilotbase:
Pilotbase powers the world’s flight training ecosystem, supporting over 1,400 flight schools and tens of thousands of pilots through and beyond training each year. We are expanding our Pilot Experience Solutions, a connected system that brings together flight schools, pilots, and industry partners into a single, data-driven network. This next phase of growth is focused on expanding within our existing customer base, reaching pilots directly, and creating new revenue streams across the ecosystem.
LogTen, Pilotbase’s digital pilot logbook designed for professionals, is one of our primary ways of supporting pilots after training as they track their activity, progress their career, and maintain their numerous requirements as a pilot.
Job Overview:
As our Senior Software Engineer on our Pilot Experience Solutions, you’ll own product experiences that follow pilots across the full arc of their journey, from students logging their first training flights to career aviators tracking certifications, currency, and thousands of flight hours. You’ll work across our React Native and native iOS applications, with particular focus on the offline-first architecture and data synchronization that keep our solutions reliable in the cockpit and on the ramp, connected or not. This is a high-ownership, high-agency individual contributor role: you’ll be trusted to make architectural calls, ship independently, and raise the technical bar for the engineers around you, with AI tools and workflows as a default part of how you build.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain Pilotbase’s Pilot Experience Solutions across React Native and native iOS applications, covering the full pilot journey from student training through professional career milestones
Own the offline-first architecture and data synchronization layer that keeps pilots’ logbooks accurate and available with or without connectivity
Partner with product and design to translate pilot training and career milestones into shipped, customer-facing functionality
Make high-judgment architectural and technical decisions independently, with minimal oversight
Use AI tools and agentic workflows as a default part of how you plan, build, test, and ship
Mentor and influence other engineers on the team, raising the bar on code quality, technical judgment, and AI-assisted development practices
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and pilots directly to understand real-world logging, training, and career-tracking needs, and translate that feedback into product decisions.
Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code across mobile and backend
Continuously evaluate and improve how our solutions are built, deployed, and monitored
Qualifications:
REQUIRED
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent building and shipping production SaaS / mobile applications.
Hands-on experience with React Native and/or native iOS development (Swift/Objective-C)
Experience designing and maintaining offline-first mobile architectures and data synchronization
Hands-on experience with AWS and MongoDB
A high-agency engineer who takes end-to-end ownership and is comfortable operating with minimal oversight
Comfortable using AI tools and agentic workflows as a core part of your development process, with a clear point of view on how they change the way software gets built
Strong communication skills and the judgment to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical peers
PREFERRED
Experience with consumer mobile apps in aviation or another regulated, compliance-sensitive space
Experience building or operating agentic AI tooling within a software development lifecycle
Interest in aviation or pilot experience
Compensation:
SALARY: $160,000 - $200,000, depending on experience and location
Benefits:
Full benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Short-Term Disability, Life Insurance, 401(k) plan)
Equity Appreciation Plan
Flexible Time Off policy
Seven (7) company-wide paid holidays + two (2) floating holidays
Two (2) wellness days
Employee Assistance Program

Home Office Stipend

Minimal business travel required, up to 5%
