What is the Opportunity?
The Area Manager will play a critical leadership role in the successful delivery of the Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project. Reporting directly to the Segment Integration Director, the Area Manager is accountable for the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of a designated project area, ensuring alignment with project objectives, contractual requirements, quality standards, and stakeholder expectations.
This position will provide leadership to multidisciplinary construction, engineering, subcontractor, and field teams while coordinating closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the successful delivery of one of Ontario's most significant transit infrastructure projects.
What You'll Do Here:
Coordinate and integrate all construction and operational activities within an assigned project area, ensuring delivery against schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
Support the Segment Integration Director in executing project strategies, plans, and performance targets.
Manage and coordinate construction, engineering, procurement, commercial, and subcontractor activities within the assigned area.
Develop and maintain short- and long-term execution plans, identifying risks, constraints, and mitigation strategies.
Monitor project performance, productivity, and resource utilization, implementing corrective actions where required.
Ensure compliance with contract requirements, project specifications, regulatory obligations, and company policies.
Coordinate with engineering, quality, environmental, and safety teams to address project issues and maintain project compliance.
Lead area progress reviews and provide regular status updates, forecasts, and reports to the Segment Integration Director and senior leadership team.
Manage stakeholder relationships including clients, consultants, utility partners, subcontractors, vendors, and community stakeholders.
Identify schedule impacts, scope changes, and potential claims, working collaboratively with project controls and commercial teams to mitigate risks.
Support change management activities, including the identification, evaluation, and implementation of project modifications.
Review and approve work plans, construction methodologies, and execution strategies for assigned work areas.
Ensure effective coordination between multiple disciplines and work fronts to maximize project efficiency and minimize disruption.
Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all activities are executed in accordance with project health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Participate in budget development, forecasting, cost control, and performance monitoring activities.
Mentor, develop, and lead project personnel, fostering a high-performance and collaborative work environment.
Participate in client and executive-level meetings as required.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team:
Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
15+ years of progressive experience within major infrastructure, transit, heavy civil, transportation, or construction projects.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior leadership or management role overseeing large multidisciplinary project teams.
Demonstrated experience delivering complex Light Rail Transit (LRT), transit, rail, transportation, or major infrastructure projects.
Major public-private partnership (P3) project experience.
Utility relocation, civil works, stations, guideway, systems integration, or corridor construction experience.
Experience working within highly regulated urban construction environments
Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, project delivery models, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, and construction partners in a large project environment.
Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple stakeholders in a complex matrix organization.
Strong understanding of contract administration, scope management, and change management processes.
Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Experience interfacing with clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, and senior project leadership.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms.
Experience with Primavera P6, SAP, and other project controls systems is considered an asset.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), PMP, Gold Seal, or equivalent professional designation is considered an asset.
