The Occupational Therapist is responsible for conducting IEP assessments and executing therapeutic programs for preschool children with visual and hearing impairments. This includes implementing fine motor interventions, managing adaptive equipment, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to meet instructional goals.
Candidates must hold a degree in Occupational Therapy and be licensed by the New York State Office of Professions and the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to ongoing professional education are required.

HKS serves in the New York City/Long Island area from its new headquarters in dynamic downtown Brooklyn and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults of Sands Point, New York, which has a network of regional offices that extends HKS' reach across the United States.
We currently have an exciting opening for a Speech Language Therapist in our Children's Learning Center Preschool! Located in Brooklyn, NY, the Speech Language Therapist will conduct a special education preschool classroom for children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Responsible for the development and execution of function/program within his/her span of control in accordance with HKS’ Mission and Strategic Objectives. Specifically responsible for:

Must be able to explain, demonstrate, provide instruction, and reinforce occupational therapy goals to both the student’s parents and in-classroom staff. This will be done through working collaboratively with his/her fellow therapists, teachers, and the school principal to incorporate monthly curriculum themes into therapy sessions. The key elements of therapy sessions will include the following, when appropriate:
Responsible for other duties as may be assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor and/or the Director of the Department.
Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral Degree from a College accredited in the field of Occupational Therapy required. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Pass the National Occupational Therapy Test, register with the National Board for Certification in Occupation Therapy and the New York State Office of Professions. Occupational Therapists are required to earn 36 educational units during their three-year renewal cycle. Renewed every 3 years as a National Board Certified Occupational Therapist and every 3 years with the New York State Office of Professions.
