Why Your Role Matters:
The School of Humanities and Social Science, UNSW Canberra, seeks a Lecturer in Australian politics for a three-year position. The successful candidate will be required to teach ZHSS1401 Ideals, Interests and Power within the school, and additional courses as required. In addition to specific expertise with regards to Australian Politics, the ideal candidate will have a broader interests and skills in fields such Political Philosophy, Security Studies and/or International Relations.
A Lecturer is expected to carry out activities to develop their scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally and to contribute significantly to achieving the teaching and service missions of the School and Faculty.
This is an exciting opportunity for an academic with expertise in Australian Politics who is passionate about delivering outstanding teaching while building a strong research profile. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, develop innovative learning experiences, and support students in achieving excellent academic outcomes. Alongside teaching responsibilities, you will undertake impactful research, contribute to collaborative projects, and help advance disciplinary knowledge through scholarly engagement and funding initiatives. Working within a collegial academic environment, you will have the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines, mentor students, and play an active role in shaping the future of politics education and research at UNSW Canberra.
The role of Lecturer reports to the Head of School and has no direct reports.
Who You Are (skills and experience):
A PhD in a discipline related to the study of Australian politics and/or relevant work experience.
Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues, including participating as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
