Introduction: Build Bridges That Empower Families
Do you believe that strong family connections are the key to student success? LaAmistad is seeking a Bilingual Parent Liaison to strengthen the bridge between Latino families, schools, and our afterschool programs. If you're fluent in both Spanish and English and passionate about helping parents feel empowered and engaged, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
As a Parent Liaison, you'll be the trusted voice families turn to for support, guidance, and resources. From translating communication to helping parents navigate school systems, your work will ensure every family feels seen, informed, and involved in their child’s success.
Key Responsibilities
As a Parent Liaison, you will work closely with families, staff, and community partners to improve family engagement and communication at your assigned afterschool site(s).
Your Core Responsibilities Will Include:
Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, ensuring consistent and culturally sensitive communication in both English and Spanish.
Translate and distribute key information to families and staff (program announcements, schedules, parent updates, school reports, etc.).
Assist afterschool staff and volunteer tutors in managing logistics, communication, and parent needs on site.
Help parents understand and navigate school systems and community services.
Build meaningful relationships with students' families and support them in addressing educational, behavioral, or social challenges.
Maintain accurate and confidential records related to parent communication and student needs.
Refer families to appropriate external resources or agencies when necessary.
Attend and help coordinate meetings, events, and workshops involving families, school staff, or community partners.
Support school-home communication and ensure alignment with LaAmistad’s mission and goals.
Participate in training sessions and team meetings.
Requires physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs., walk across campuses, push supply carts, and climb stairs as needed.
A Typical Day Might Look Like:
Review messages from parents and translate updates for program staff
Help prep for afterschool sessions; greet parents or school reps as needed
Assist with student arrivals and support tutoring sessions on-site
Meet with a family about accessing school support services
Draft and distribute bilingual parent updates or resource flyers
Log records and prep for upcoming parent events or workshops
What Success Looks Like
Parents are informed, engaged, and actively participating in their children’s education.
Volunteers and staff receive clear, bilingual communication support.
Students feel supported by a unified network of school, family, and afterschool advocates.
Program records and parent interactions are well-documented and confidentially maintained.
Strong trust and cultural understanding are fostered across the community.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
Fluency in both Spanish and English (written, spoken, and listening)
High school diploma or GED
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Zoom
Ability to multitask, manage priorities, and work both collaboratively and independently
Access to reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
Must provide own laptop
Preferred:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree
Experience with tutoring, parent coaching, school systems, or social services
Familiarity with the needs of Latino communities and diverse family structures
Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends for events
Candidates over age 25 who are willing to drive a small bus/van to transport up to 14 students to afterschool, in addition to filling this role, will receive an additional $2/hour above their determined pay rate.
Desired Attributes
Compassionate, culturally responsive communicator
Organized and detail-oriented with excellent follow-through
Problem-solver who brings ideas and positivity to the table
Collaborative team player who values both independence and connection
Committed to LaAmistad’s mission and core values:
Kindness: Speak with love, listen with patience, act with compassion
Excellence: Every touch, every time, no exceptions
Passion: Bring energy and joy to meaningful work
Teamwork: Together, we can do so much
