Full job description

Working with the AA | Me mahi tahi tatou ki AA

For over 120 years the AA have been helping Kiwis on their adventures! Today, we're one of New Zealand's most respected and trusted brands. From our humble beginnings as a motoring enthusiast's club, the New Zealand AA (Automobile Association) has grown into a large, dynamic organisation offering many services and products to more than a million Members.

And now, we’re building the organisation of the future – more connected, modern, and purpose-driven. We are a business in transformation, with opportunities to work cross-functionally, grow new skills, and make a meaningful impact. We’re investing in our people, platforms, and ways of working to stay ahead of what our Members and customers need.

We’re looking for a skilled and customer‑focused Vehicle Testing Officer to join our passionate Motoring Services team. If you’re committed to vehicle safety, enjoy working with people, and take pride in delivering accurate, high‑quality inspections, this is a fantastic opportunity to build your career with one of New Zealand’s most trusted and iconic organisations.

What You'll Be Doing | Mō te Tūranga

In this role, you’ll be responsible for delivering high‑quality vehicle testing services that meet AA and NZTA standards. Your day‑to‑day will include:

  • Carrying out accurate and compliant Warrant of Fitness (WOF) inspections, ensuring all checks meet AA and NZTA processes and quality expectations.
  • Providing clear, complete written and verbal reports, helping customers understand your findings in a way that’s easy to follow.
  • Referring and promoting products and services that genuinely meet customer needs, supporting the wider AA service offering.
  • Assisting the Manager or Team Leader with investigating customer service issues when required, ensuring any concerns are resolved professionally.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with customers, colleagues, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keeping up to date with changes to technology, systems and processes, and actively contributing ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Following all Health & Safety requirements to ensure a safe environment for yourself, your team, and the public.

About You | Mōu

You’re someone who brings strong technical capability along with a customer‑first mindset. You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Hold a valid Warrant of Fitness authority (COF Certification is a bonus).
  • Have at least three years of recent automotive industry experience and a clean full New Zealand driver licence.
  • Are comfortable working in a hands‑on, safety‑focused environment.
  • Are genuinely passionate about automotive work, with great attention to detail and pride in the quality of your inspections.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, able to translate technical terms into easy‑to‑understand language for customers.
  • Deliver excellent customer service, building trust and putting people at ease throughout the inspection process.
  • Are adaptable and comfortable learning new systems, processes, and technology as they evolve.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

What We Offer | Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou

  • Free AA Membership for you and your whānau
  • A day off for your birthday and 2 days wellbeing leave annually
  • Training available / career development
  • Discounted insurance

Here, we offer a lot more than roadside assistance. We're constantly evolving and advancing into new businesses, offering new challenges and a range of opportunities.

If you’re passionate about vehicle safety, love helping people, and want to be part of a proud and supportive team that’s been guiding life’s journeys for over 110 years, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and take the next step in your automotive career with an organisation that invests in your growth, values your expertise, and puts people at the heart of everything we do.

Our teams celebrate diversity and believe that everyone should be able to bring their true selves to work every day.  We want you to feel comfortable to be your authentic self throughout the recruitment process, please feel free to let us know if there is anything you need to allow you to participate equitably.

Our recruitment process is people-led and relationship-focused—we do not use AI to screen or assess applications. Every application is reviewed by a real person, because we value potential, individuality, and the human stories behind each candidate.

We are aware that there will be candidates who are interested in the role but may only feel comfortable to apply if they have ticked all the boxes. We want you to know that if you feel like you don't meet all the requirements, please still get in touch.  We'd love to korero to see if you might be a great fit for the role.
