Responsibilities
Deliver early-stage risk-based security strategies and technical designs for built environment and infrastructure projects. Manage client relationships, project budgets, and operational planning while overseeing the quality of deliverables.
Requirements
Requires 5+ years of relevant experience with strong knowledge of CPTED, ISO31000, and NIST standards. A bachelor's degree and a relevant security professional certification are required.
Full job description
This role may be based in New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston, the San Francisco Bay Area, or Los Angeles.
The BE&I Senior Consultant will deliver and support fee-earning consulting assignments focused on physical security risk management, security strategy, program design, assessments, gap analysis, improvement planning, and implementation support. The role will include project management, independent and team-based delivery, client engagement, and business development support.
The successful applicant will work with clients and Control Risks colleagues across a broad range of built environment and infrastructure sectors, translating risk insight into practical, technically informed security solutions that support resilient organizations and successful project outcomes.
Tasks and responsibilities
Deliver, independently and as part of a team, Control Risks’ consulting services by developing practical solutions to complex physical and electronic security risks.
Scope, plan, deliver, and support projects across security risk assessments, CPTED assessments, design basis threat development, secure-by-design advisory, gap analyses, program and organizational design, security planning, policy and procedure development, training, exercises, design reviews, and implementation support.
Work with client stakeholder teams to ensure business priorities, operational requirements, threat context, and risk appetite are reflected in proportionate security recommendations and secure-by-design outcomes.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, project managers, owners, operators, specialist security integrators, and other design team members to support effective physical and electronic security solutions.
Actively support projects from initial client enquiry through proposal development, delivery, quality assurance, and project closure.
Maintain strong client communication by responding effectively to requests, supporting meetings and workshops, and helping build trusted advisory relationships.
Apply Control Risks methodologies, quality standards, and document control requirements to ensure deliverables are accurate, technically sound, and appropriate for the client context.
Contribute to client relationship development, proposals, marketing materials, thought leadership, and other business development activities that support the growth of BE&I services.
Knowledge and experience
3 to 5 years of relevant experience in a corporate security, risk management, consulting, engineering, design, construction, or built environment role, ideally with a focus on physical security.
Familiarity with corporate security, security risk management, crisis management, CPTED principles, design basis threat concepts, secure-by-design concepts, UFC criteria, and built environment security best practices, including physical security design and program improvement approaches.
Experience supporting quality consulting solutions, including written reports, client presentations, workshops, training, site surveys, design reviews, and oral briefings for a range of client audiences.
Qualifications and specialist skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
Fluent English communication skills, including strong report writing and presentation capabilities. Proficiency in other languages, specifically Spanish, Portuguese, or French, is advantageous.
Strong project management, time management, and prioritization capabilities.
Ability to travel up to 50% as required and work flexibly during periods of high demand. Valid U.S. driver's license and valid passport are required.
Competencies
Critical and analytical problem-solving, commercial awareness, sound professional judgement, attention to detail, and a confident, solution-oriented approach.
Strong client focus, personal impact, and exceptional interpersonal communication, with the ability to work effectively with clients, multidisciplinary project teams, and colleagues across Control Risks.
Collaboration, adaptability, integrity, discretion, willingness to learn, and the ability to balance competing priorities within a globally connected and inclusive team environment.
Behaviors
All employees are expected to display behaviors reflective of our company values: Integrity and Ethics, Collaboration and Teamwork, Commitment to People, and Professionalism and Excellence.
The base salary range for this position is $115,000-$130,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
