About the Role:

At Spines, we are transforming the publishing industry by combining artificial intelligence with expert human oversight to deliver high-quality books efficiently and at scale.

We are looking for a Production Manager (Translation) to oversee the production workflow of translated books. This role is responsible for managing the key production stages of translated manuscripts—from AI-assisted translation through editing, proofreading, formatting, and final quality assurance—ensuring every project meets Spines' quality standards before moving to publication and distribution.

Our current translation priorities are German, Portuguese, French, and Italian, and we are seeking professionals with expertise in one or more of these languages to support our growing multilingual publishing program.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with AI-powered tools. They should be able to supervise AI-generated content, coordinate production tasks, and ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality throughout the translation and editorial process.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the production workflow of translated manuscripts from translation through final production readiness.

Oversee and execute production tasks related to:

• AI-assisted translation
• Editing and language refinement
• Proofreading coordination
• Formatting review
• Final quality assurance before publication

Review AI-generated translations and ensure they meet Spines' quality standards for accuracy, fluency, grammar, consistency, readability, and tone.

Identify and resolve translation issues, formatting inconsistencies, and production errors before projects move to the next production stage.

Coordinate internally with proofreading, formatting, design, publishing, and other production teams to ensure an efficient workflow.

Monitor project timelines and production queues to ensure deadlines are met.

Perform quality assurance checks throughout the production process.

Ensure consistency in terminology, style, formatting, and editorial standards across translated editions.

Effectively use AI-powered translation, editing, and publishing tools while applying human judgment to validate and refine their outputs.

Track project progress, document revisions, and ensure all deliverables comply with company standards.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of production workflows and AI-assisted publishing processes.

Qualifications

Requirements

Excellent command of English.

Professional proficiency in at least one of the following languages:

• German
• Portuguese
• French
• Italian

Experience in translation, localization, editorial production, publishing, or content quality assurance.

Strong understanding of grammar, style, and editorial best practices.

Experience using AI-powered writing, editing, or translation tools (such as ChatGPT, DeepL, Claude, Gemini, or similar).

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
