Job Description
Position Summary:
The Honors Program at Colorado State University seeks applications from qualified individuals interested in facilitating part-time Structured Mentoring Opportunities for Honors students. These one-credit, variable-content courses provide students with the chance to engage in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that align with the Honors Program’s mission to cultivate applied, interdisciplinary, and professionally oriented scholarship.
Structured Mentoring Opportunities are designed to connect students with real-world contexts in which they can develop practical skills and insight under the guidance of an experienced mentor. Instructors serve as facilitators, creating a learning environment that reflects their disciplinary expertise while responding to current academic and/or community needs. These opportunities are intentionally experiential and may vary in focus—ranging from research support to civic engagement to professional skill-building—depending on the strengths and proposals of the instructor.
Appointments are made on a part-time, semester-by-semester basis, depending on program needs and student interest. Structured Mentoring experiences typically enroll small cohorts, providing the opportunity for deep mentorship and personalized guidance.
The Honors Program values pluralism and purpose-driven education rooted in CSU’s Land-Grant mission. We invite applicants who are excited to contribute to an innovative curriculum that prepares students to address the complexities of today’s world through practical, civic, and interdisciplinary engagement.
Work Unit Description:
The goal of the University Honors Program (UHP) is to provide an enriched educational program of study for academically talented and motivated students at Colorado State University. Honors students benefit from small, discussion-based seminars taught by some of the University’s finest faculty members, personalized academic advising, priority enrollment, opportunities for leadership, research and community service, and special scholarships. Many Honors students choose to live in one of our Residential Learning Communities.
Salary Range:
$250 per student, up to $5,000
Essential Job Duties:
Essential job duties vary, but may include:
Facilitate Structured Mentoring Opportunities that connect students with real-world contexts.
Guide students in developing practical skills and insight through structured mentoring experiences.
Create learning environments that reflect the instructor’s disciplinary expertise and respond to current academic and/or community needs.
Facilitate experiential opportunities in areas such as research support, civic engagement, and professional skill-building, based on the instructor’s strengths and proposed area of focus.
Appointments are based on program need and enrollment. Specific duties will be defined at the time of hire by the supervising faculty member.
Conditions of Employment:
Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires)
Supervision:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
Previous teaching and/or facilitation skills.
Demonstrated expertise in field proposed.
Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching high-impact practices.
Evidence of understanding the importance of curricular and community links, evidence of co-curricular development for students, and fostering belonging among students.
Application Instructions:
To apply, please upload a resume and cover letter.
Applicants are asked to submit a brief proposal outlining the area of expertise they wish to offer and the type of experiential learning opportunity they envision providing. These offerings should reflect Honors Program values of professionalism, interdisciplinarity, critical thinking, creative problem solving, and communication, while supporting students’ development as engaged scholars and citizens.
This is an evergreen posting. Applications will be reviewed as hiring needs arise, and qualified applicants may be contacted by individual faculty members if a suitable opportunity becomes available. This pool will expire on December 31, 2026. Applicants who wish to be considered after this date must reapply.
Please note, applicants may redact information from their application materials that identifies their age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
