Here at the OTI our innovative sampling tools and diagnostics unlock access to accurate, essential information that advances global health and well-being. Our products include molecular sampling kits for the genome and microbiome, and rapid diagnostics for infectious disease.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for accurate, timely accounting and financial reporting with primary ownership of inventory and product costing activities. The role partners with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Finance to maintain inventory integrity, analyze manufacturing and purchase cost drivers, support the monthly close, strengthen controls, and provide clear decision support. This position also contributes broad accounting expertise across reconciliations, reporting, audit support, and process improvement.
\nSnapshot of Responsibilities:
Own inventory accounting and related month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, rollforwards, and supporting schedules.
Maintain and review standard costs, bills of material, routings, overhead rates, and other cost inputs in the ERP; coordinate updates with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Finance.
Analyze purchase price, material usage, labor, overhead, production, and other inventory-related variances; investigate drivers and communicate findings and recommended actions.
Reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger and resolve differences involving raw materials, work in process, finished goods, in-transit inventory, and inventory reserves.
Support cycle counts and physical inventories, including planning, variance review, accounting adjustments, documentation, and control follow-up.
Prepare and assess inventory reserves, including excess and obsolete inventory, lower-of-cost-or-net-realizable-value considerations, and other valuation adjustments in accordance with company policy and U.S. GAAP.
Review inventory transactions and master data for completeness and accuracy; identify root causes of exceptions and partner with process owners on sustainable corrections.
Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries and perform complex balance sheet reconciliations with clear, audit-ready support.
Support cost-of-goods-sold and gross-margin reporting through product, site, and variance analysis; explain significant period-over-period movements.
Assist with forecasts, budgets, and operational decision support by providing inventory, cost, and margin analyses.
Support internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules, responding to inquiries, and maintaining organized documentation and evidence of controls.
Document accounting procedures and internal controls; identify and implement opportunities to improve accuracy, timeliness, automation, and scalability.
Provide technical guidance and cross-training to accounting and business partners, while serving as a dependable backup for selected general accounting activities.
Perform other accounting and finance responsibilities as assigned.
Travel may be required to support local Bethlehem, Pennsylvania sites within approximately 10 miles. Limited additional travel may be requested for training, audits, physical inventories, collaboration with other company locations, or meetings with external partners.
What you bring:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
Five years of progressive accounting experience.
Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, inventory valuation, and manufacturing or product costing concepts.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations, and analysis of large data sets.
Experience with an enterprise resource planning system; SAP experience is strongly preferred.
Ability to translate detailed accounting data into clear business insights and communicate effectively with financial and non-financial partners.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines, exercise sound judgment, and work independently in a fast-paced close environment.
Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving skills, and commitment to complete, accurate, and well-documented work.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
Reliable high-speed internet access suitable for effective remote work on hybrid days.
