The Simulation Technician supports the planning, setup, operation, maintenance, and evaluation of simulation-based education activities. Assists with mannequin-based simulators, task trainers, standardized patient encounters, audiovisual systems, and simulation technologies while ensuring simulation center resources, equipment, and learning environments are operational, safe, and ready for use.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and performs preventative maintenance on simulation equipment, task trainers, computerized simulators, virtual reality trainers, computer hardware, audiovisual systems, and other simulation technologies while maintaining related inventories, supplies, software, and educational resources.
Prepares, stages, operates, and restores simulation activities by coordinating equipment setup, moulage, room readiness, simulator programming support, simulation delivery, post-event breakdown, cleaning, storage, and overall operational readiness.
Supports simulation-based education by operating simulation technology, making adjustments to meet learning objectives, and assisting learners, faculty, staff, and standardized patients in the safe and effective use of simulation resources and equipment.
Completes documentation, scheduling, reporting, data entry, archival activities, and maintains records necessary to support simulation center operations and educational programming.
Develops, updates, and maintains checklists, troubleshooting guides, maintenance schedules, operational procedures, and other supporting resources that promote consistency and quality.
Participates in process improvement initiatives, continuing education, professional development activities, and efforts that enhance simulation operations and educational effectiveness.
Supports day-to-day simulation center operations, special projects, equipment readiness, customer service, collaboration with diverse populations, and other departmental responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit for at least 4 hours at a time. Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours per day. Must be able to walk 3 hours per day. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation. Must be able to see as it relates to general and near vision. Must frequently lift, carry, push, pull, move, load, unload, and secure equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in hot, cold, wet and variable weather conditions.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, healthcare or related field is preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in simulation or education/training preferred. Clinical background preferred but not essential. Demonstrated analytic decision-making, problem-solving skills. Knowledge of various simulation teaching concepts is desired.
