The monitor maintains constant surveillance of city cameras to identify suspicious activity and crimes in progress. They also coordinate with police officers and investigators to secure video evidence for official investigations.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and have at least two years of office experience. Proficiency in computer operations, video surveillance equipment, and the ability to pass a thorough background check are mandatory.
The intent of the Reading Police Department (RPD) Video Safety Unit (VSU) is to improve the safety of public spaces using video camera technology and effective communication between the public and the police. The use of video cameras provides more “eyes on the street” and enhances individual civic responsibility in the areas of reporting suspicious activity and protecting and enhancing the quality of life.
The Video Safety Unit is monitored by the Monitoring Staff both sworn and civilian. Monitoring Staff utilize the video surveillance equipment to observe activities in public spaces, report incidents to the appropriate authorities, and enhance the delivery of service by the Reading Police Department and other emergency service providers.
Responsibilities will include general janitorial and custodial work which may include, but not be limited to:
