Full job description
The Director, Business Development is responsible for evaluating and executing the company’s mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, and strategic partnerships across the enterprise. Working closely for and with the SVP of Business Development and Strategy, this position will serve as a key liaison between Repligen businesses, external companies and partners to build a portfolio of investments and acquisitions aimed at driving double digit growth and profitability in bioprocessing.
This is a hands on, detail oriented leadership role. The successful candidate will operate comfortably across all levels of the organization, as well as with internal and external partners —driving analyses, deal execution, and cross functional coordination required to conduct due diligence, close and integrate transactions and strategic investments in a public company environment. Experience in biopharma, med tech, and/or bioprocessing – as well as assessing and applying digital / AI solutions across a portfolio – preferred.
This role is expected to model our Leadership Behaviors—Integrity & Compliance, Customer Focus, Collaboration, Courage, Team Empowerment, and Accountability & Results—in all aspects of work.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development, M&A, and Strategic Investments
Identify, evaluate, and prioritize inorganic growth opportunities, including:
Mergers and acquisitions
Asset, technology, and IP licensing (in‑licensing and out‑licensing)
Strategic alliances and partnerships
Lead the end‑to‑end execution of transactions, including:
Target identification and strategic fit assessment
Financial modeling, valuation, and scenario analysis
Commercial, technical, legal, and financial due diligence
Deal structuring and term sheet development
Internal approvals and Board‑level materials
Closing execution
Serve as a point of contact for external partners, licensors, licensees, and advisors (investment bankers, legal counsel, consultants)
Ensure consistency, rigor, and discipline across all transaction types
Work with leadership to develop and execute a licensing and strategic partnership strategy aligned with the company’s broader growth and portfolio objectives
Lead complex licensing agreements, including scope, diligence, execution and alliance management post close
Partner closely with R&D, Legal, Finance, and Commercial teams to evaluate technical feasibility, value creation, and risk
Oversee ongoing performance of licensed assets and ensure contractual obligations are met
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
5-7 years of experience in business development, investment banking, management consulting, private equity, or related fields
Demonstrated experience executing M&A and licensing transactions within a public company environment
Strong financial and analytical capability, including valuation, deal modeling, and ROI analysis
Skillset to assess and apply digital / AI companies, tools and services
Experience in life sciences, biopharma, bioprocessing or med tech M&A preferred
