About Us
Anthos|Home is a nonprofit startup focused on creating a new way home for New Yorkers with housing vouchers. We streamline the apartment search, approval, and move-in process using technology to move people into stable housing faster. We believe every person deserves a place to blossom, and we’re building the tools, systems, and teams to make that possible.
Our Culture
At Anthos|Home, urgency drives our work because every day in shelter matters. We are focused on helping people move into stable housing as quickly as possible and continuously improving how we get there.
We are looking for team members who are highly data-oriented, tech-savvy, and comfortable learning new systems. Strong candidates value accuracy, use data to inform decisions, and actively improve how information is tracked and shared.
We value people who are thoughtful, adaptable, and detail-oriented, and who follow through, communicate openly, and take ownership of their work. How effectively we use data and technology directly impacts how quickly people get home.
The Role
The Director of Communications will report directly to the CEO and develop, maintain, and execute AnthoslHome's organization-wide communications strategy and manage all internal and external communications at a critical moment in the organization's growth. This role presents the rare opportunity to shape the public voice of one of New York City's most innovative housing nonprofits - defining how we tell the story of our organization and the system we're working to change.
The Director of Communications builds and stewards the organization's brand, leads day-to-day content creation and engagement across channels, and ensures consistent voice and messaging across every audience the organization reaches. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Communications works in close collaboration with the Vice President of Development and Chief of Staff. The Director of Communications will also receive support from the Executive Associate.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on communicator who pairs strong editorial judgment with deep storytelling instincts and a track record of translating programmatic and policy work into compelling content. They thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, take ownership across both strategy and execution, and are energized by the chance to build the communications infrastructure that will elevate the essential work of AnthoslHome.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee AnthoslHome's website, including content updates, ongoing maintenance, and strategic positioning
Manage engagement with communications consultants to ensure alignment with organizational messaging and strategic priorities
External Communications
Lead day-to-day content creation, publication, and engagement across all external channels, including social media, e-newsletters, and other digital communications
Identify opportunities across the organization to conduct interviews, capture stories, and create content that supports core messaging and showcases organizational impact
Identify and pursue opportunities for speaking engagements, publicity, and media that are in line with the organization's communication strategy
Build and maintain relationships with media, partner organizations, and other external stakeholders relevant to brand and visibility
Develop communications materials that celebrate accomplishments and increase organizational visibility across diverse stakeholder audiences
Collaborate with the Development team on the refinement of communications to donor audiences
Provide editorial review and brand alignment for communication materials produced across the organization, and with our external partners such as landlords as well as participants.
Internal and Executive Communications
Ensure consistent brand and voice across internally produced materials, including operational, training, and onboarding content
Draft and manage internal and external communications on behalf of the CEO related to strategy, organizational priorities, and stakeholder relations
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with Program, Development, and Operations teams to surface stories, align messaging, and represent communications priorities in organizational planning
Coordinate with the Chief of Staff and Chief Program Officer on policy and advocacy messaging
Support Program teams in developing and refining marketing materials for target audiences, including property providers
Prepare staff and participants on messaging content and delivery for speaking engagements, events, and other communications opportunities
Support the Development team on the communications components of fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship materials, and event needs
Carry out other related duties as assigned in support of organizational goals and team operations

10+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or a related field, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment
Demonstrated experience developing and executing organization-wide communications strategies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft polished, professional materials for diverse audiences

An innovative new nonprofit transforming the system by which NYC residents with housing subsidies source and rent available housing.
Anthos|Home’s mission is to expedite access to permanent housing for homeless and vulnerable New Yorkers by streamlining the voucher-to-housing process and providing services to tenants and landlords to support housing stability and success.
Anthos|Home is a game-changer for New Yorkers who are unhoused or at risk of homelessness—and for the systems that serve them.
Our Story:
Anthos|Home was founded in 2022 by Laura Lazarus and Leslie Abbey, leaders with decades of experience in government, social service nonprofits, and affordable housing development.
Anthos|Home was inspired by old problems, in New York and elsewhere: the growing crisis of homelessness and the systemic challenges of using housing subsidies/vouchers to secure housing. Every year, thousands of vouchers go unused and apartments sit empty, while individuals and families make do in shelters for months or even years.
To remedy the problem, Anthos|Home partners with local government, nonprofits, housing providers, and private funders to help voucher holders quickly move into affordable housing. Our model — which is based on the Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool created by Brilliant Corners in Los Angeles — succeeds by easing the risk and administrative burden of housing providers, by helping tenants navigate the voucher and rental landscapes, and by providing ongoing support and assistance to both.
In short, Anthos|Home makes every step of the voucher process easier for all involved. Our model has the added benefit of attracting more landlords, thereby increasing the number of affordable housing units available to voucher holding tenants, freeing up government and nonprofit resources to address other aspects of homelessness in New York.
