At the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC), we are dedicated to creating a culturally strong and supportive environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can thrive while maintaining connections to culture, community and Country. Our work is grounded in respect, belonging, self-determination and student success.
We are seeking passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals to join our Student Success Team and play a meaningful role in supporting students throughout their university journey. We currently have two exciting opportunities available for people who are committed to empowering our mob through education, connection and culturally safe support.
About the Roles
These are permanent, continuing full-time opportunities based at the University of Wollongong. Working closely with students, community and university stakeholders, the Student Success Team provides culturally safe programs, advice and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from enrolment through to graduation.
Through proactive engagement, advocacy and holistic support, the team helps strengthen student participation, retention and success while fostering a strong sense of belonging and connection to culture, community and Country.
Senior Indigenous Student Support Advisor (Identified)
Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to succeed academically, personally and professionally through culturally responsive, holistic support. This role works with students experiencing complex circumstances and provides leadership, mentoring and specialist guidance within the Student Success Team.
Key responsibilities:
Deliver specialist case management and student support services.
Support students experiencing academic, personal and wellbeing challenges.
Lead early intervention and retention initiatives that improve student success.
Create culturally safe pathways to university services and support.
Mentor and support team members while building strong partnerships across the University and community.
What You'll Bring
Extensive experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
Strong case management, student support or wellbeing experience.
Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths-based practice.
Excellent communication, relationship-building and leadership skills.
Student Success Officer (Identified)
Level 5: $85,682 - $96,898 + 17% superannuation
Be the welcoming first point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and help create a culturally safe and supportive university experience. Through proactive engagement, referrals and relationship-building, you'll help students stay connected, confident and successful throughout their studies.
Key responsibilities:
Respond to student enquiries and provide guidance and support.
Undertake proactive outreach and student engagement activities.
Build strong relationships with students, particularly those new to university.
Connect students with appropriate university and community support services.
Contribute to orientation programs, events and student success initiatives.

Experience providing support, guidance or engagement services.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, community and stakeholders.
Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe and respectful practice.
Eligibility
These positions are identified for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. UOW considers Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent to be a genuine occupational requirement under relevant anti-discrimination legislation.

Provide confirmation of your Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
