As a department within Student Affairs, the University of North Texas at Dallas Counseling & Wellness Center offers services to all enrolled students. The UNT Dallas Counseling & Wellness Center provides short-term individual counseling, group counseling, wellness programming, crisis intervention, and case management services. The UNT Dallas Counseling & Wellness Center offers an holistic approach to providing services to students, and is committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and confirming environment for all.
Position Overview
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Counseling and Wellness. The Assistant Director provides counseling services to assist students in maximizing their potential for personal and academic success. Exhibit a commitment to a developmental model by initiating interventions that promote a healthy campus environment and meet the psychological needs of the university community. The ideal candidate for this position will be knowledgeable of Counseling Services and Wellness programming which assist students in higher education. An employee in this position may supervise fulltime and part-time employees. This position will be an active member of the Student Affairs team and will report to the Director of Counseling and Wellness.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work and license as an LPC/LCSW or other mental health professional license.
Three years of experience in counseling or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of Texas rules and regulations related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
Ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound business decisions.
Strong presentation skills.
Strong problem solving skills.
Strong critical thinking skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently.
Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years experience in counseling, psychology, counseling psychology or social work is preferred.
Experience within in a university setting.
Experience with assessing and treating dual diagnosis clients.
Experience providing crisis intervention, treatment for alcohol/drug use and eating disorders.
Excellent assessment skills and an ability to relate to a all student populations.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Strong Interpersonal Skills.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Requires independent licensure as a Social Worker and/or Counselor in the State of Texas(or other clinical mental health counseling license).
Job Duties
Completes all other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling and Wellness.
Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
Provides individual and group counseling for personal and academic concerns.
Conducts intake assessments, screenings, psychological testing and interpretation.
Engages in client staffing, case management, consultation and referral.
Engages in program development, educational outreach, and evaluation of activities.
Provides crisis intervention services and consults with the director when necessary.
Works collaboratively with colleagues in the counseling center and across the institution.
Works in a multicultural environment to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
Engages in professional development activities to enhance skills and maintain licensure.
Consults with faculty and staff regarding counseling services for students.
Utilizes computer technology to support the counseling functions.
Provides service to the university through involvement in committees and other activities.
