Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for Airframe Design for Survivability - NG Fellow 1to join the team of qualified individuals on our Survivability Organization. This leadership role is located onsite in Redondo Beach, CA, Melbourne, FL, San Diego, CA or Oklahoma City, OK or Palmdale, CA.
This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is contingent upon the candidate verification/obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. The ideal candidate will provide vision and leadership in the conduct of complex Survivability analytical, developmental, design and demonstration / test assignments related to advanced Survivability technology development and integration for aircraft propulsion. Candidate must also have a proven track record with designs that are specification compliant and producible at scale.
This role will serve as technical lead and consultant to various legacy and advanced programs, and Sector initiatives. Responsibilities of this role will include:
Support multiple programs, IRAD/CRAD projects, and sector initiatives in a leadership or advisory role including the advancement of new technologies through design, integration, testing, and production
Develop and maintain of the NGAS Survivability Airframe vision and develop a roadmap for Edge technologies
Participate and occasionally lead independent review teams
Special assignments to uncover and resolve complex challenges
Develop and mentor the next generation of engineers in discipline. This includes the development of training material.
Act as a thought leader for the Survivability community, working across sectors as required
Advise multiple levels of management on technical research, applications and long-range business planning
Engage and support the United States Department of War Survivability community to facilitate engagements and/or partnerships leading to future business capture opportunities
Candidate should have broad-based knowledge and experience in the following key areas:
Have deep technical understanding of the predictive capabilities, input fidelity required to execute the predictions and subcomponent validation like material property measurements, subcomponent tests, or full-size representative test models needed to mitigate unacceptable program risk and ensure NGC maintains its credibility with the technical approach
Communicate across the engineering disciplines and technology areas to integrate capabilities and communicate technical capabilities and analyses with internal stakeholders and external customers (government customers and company leadership).
Sound understanding of Survivability design, materials and the tolerances required to achieve specific levels of performance in production vehicles
Knowledge of survivability material characterization, performance and application in Survivability design
Expert experience analyzing and explaining similarities and differences between predicted RCS data to measured RCS for full-scale component data, full-scale vehicle data and flight test data
Experience with RCS data processing tools, such as Knowbell, Pioneer or SABER
Experience in survivability component design including more than two major aircraft components
Experience with Tier I, II, III and IV measurement tools and validation
Knowledge of manufacturing best practices for Survivability materials and technologies

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors, Master’s, and/or PhD in a relevant STEM degree and robust industry related experience; 20 years of experience with a BS or 18 years’ experience with an MS or PhD
Must have significant experience with airframe design for Survivability including materials modeling, signature characterization, and the aircraft design process
Must have extensive knowledge of aircraft contributors to survivability and the design trade space with aircraft and sensor performance
Must have experience in verification and validation of survivability designs through full-scale vehicle and/or flight testing
Must have experience working the adjacent disciplines in the airframe design process and ability to defend a survivability design posture
Must have experience working with Manufacturing to improve the production process for survivability materials and technologies and ability to disposition and defend manufacturing requirements for survivability
At minimum, an active U.S.Government Secret Clearance level is required to apply and to start the role, with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access and Top Secret Clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the Company to meet its business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of NG survivability codes and tool suite
Ability to effectively communicate the relevance and mission effectiveness of survivability technologies
Extensive knowledge of industry signature tools and techniques for survivability testing
Extensive knowledge of NG manufacturing processes
Experience as part of an independent review team
Experience with tiger team assignments to uncover or resolve complex challenges
Significant experience in developing and mentoring engineers and technicians in discipline
Experience working across industry to facilitate engagements and/or partnerships leading to future business capture opportunities or technological advancement
Experience working in a SAP/SAR environment
An active U.S. Government DoD Top-Secret (TS)/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance [TS/SCI]
Primary Level Salary Range: $189,400.00 - $328,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
